Yesterday members of our brigade took part in a pre fire season training exercise in and around the North Warrandyte area.

These exercises are held each year to ensure all our local brigades are ready for the upcoming fire season. In the 4hrs we were able to be involved in:

✅ Pumping
✅ Drafting
✅ Grassfire attack
✅ Spot fire attack
✅ Bulldozer familiarisation
✅ Quick fill revision
✅ Burnover skills
✅ Area familiarisation
✅ Map reading
✅ Communications

The list could probably go on.

A BIG thankyou to the Nillumbik Group for organising and the Salvation Army for supplying a great lunch.

We are continuing our prep for summer with a a combined group training this Sunday so don’t be alarmed if you see a large presence of trucks in the north warrandyte area

🚒🚒🚒🚒🚒 LOOKOUT! More than 30 CFA trucks and other command vehicles will be in North Warrandyte on Sunday 18 Oct for a major pre-season training exercise.

Multiple strike teams from surrounding areas will be converging on different locations in North Warrandyte throughout the morning.

Please be careful on the roads and lookout for fire trucks on main and side roads.

Run for the Firies is back on Sunday 25th of October! Options for everyone: half marathon, 10.6km, 6km, 4km run/walk, or even a virtual option. All funds raised go to the Research CFA and Kangaroo Ground CFA volunteer fire brigades -
helping them boost their emergency response, improve fire safety education and keep up the high standard of service that our community relies on.

These brigades are deeply routed in our community, and supporting local fire brigades has been part of our story for over 20 years. Sponsoring Run for the Firies is a no brainer!

🚒 At 4:30am this morning, our Kangaroo Ground CFA members were responded to support Christmas Hills Fire Brigade to a fire at a former post office / general store on Eltham-Yarra Glen Road.

Over 10 local trucks attended but unfortunately the building could not be saved. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Getting Summer Ready! 🚒🚒

We are focusing our training on getting ready for summer, making sure we are practicing scenarios if we are caught in a burn over

Our prep for summer is a bit different to yours, you’ll be looking to tidy up your property to reduce the amount of fuel for fires on your property to keep you, your family and home as safe as possible!

👏👏THEY DID IT👏👏

This morning, three of our Kangaroo Ground firefighters took on the challenge at Crown Metropol, climbing 28 floors in 25kg of firefighting kit to raise money and awareness for cancer research and crisis support for our first responders.

Between them, they’ve raised more than $2,500, a fantastic effort for an important cause.

A huge well done to Kate, Chris and Tash, and to everyone who took on the challenge this morning💪👩‍🚒

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️THEY’RE DOING IT AGAIN🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Tomorrow, Saturday 12th September 2026, Chris, Kate and Tash will be representing the Kangaroo Ground CFA at the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb.

For anyone who hasn't come across it, the climb is 28 floors of stairs in full structural kit and breathing apparatus. It raises money for Lifeline, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation and the Triple Zero Foundation, which supports the mental health of emergency service personnel.

Chris, Kate and Tash have put in a lot of training to get ready for this. It is a great opportunity for the brigade and our community to support them.

Sometimes the simplest question can mean so much:

We never really know what someone might be experiencing behind the scenes. If things are feeling difficult, overwhelming or just not quite right, you don't have to go through it on your own. There is always someone who will listen.

Ask the question.
👂 Take the time to really listen.
💬 Let them know you’re there.
🔄 And remember to check in again.

You never know when a conversation, a kind word or simply letting someone know “I’m here for you” might make a difference.
