Today Quota Jimboomba held our 'Heroes and their Stories' Luncheon at the Golden Inn Chinese Restaurant, Jimboomba.

Thank you to our very special guest speakers, Sue Neale and Zoe Norton.

Sue is a local paramedic who was awarded the prestigious Ambulance Service Medal in this year's Australia Day Honours List. Today she shared personal stories about her time as a Paramedic and also as a volunteer with Ambulance Wish Qld. We were all touched by her compassion, experiences and commitment to helping others.

Zoe works for Scenic Training and she organises a variety of training and qualification sessions for First Aid, etc. She has also held 2 Auslan workshops and today she discussed the importance of everyone learning to use sign language as a way to communicate in all situations. We certainly admire her passion and her connection with people, including those with hearing and speech difficulties.

This event was aimed at raising awareness and funds for one of Quota Jimboomba's important projects 'Hearing and Speech'.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch, were entertained and informed by the guest speakers and great company, and some of us came away with fabulous raffle prizes.

Congratulations to President Janet Hughes and to Member Rosemary Ryan, for organising such a great event!

On the 21st September, 2 of our members, Sara and Robyn, attended the VIP day at Agooneree.

Each year, Quota Jimboomba sponsor and donate funds so that some special needs guests can attend this camp.

Agooneree is an annual, week-long Scout camp specifically designed for children with physical and intellectual disabilities. The program aims to give youth with additional needs the opportunity to experience the full benefits, adventures, and life skills of Scouting in an inclusive and supported environment.

Sara gave the following feedback about her visit and we felt it was important to share this information with our community.

'Agooneree has about 350 Scouts attending and 50 guests that attend with special needs . The scouts are separated into 'colours' (troops) and each troop is responsible for the wellbeing of the special guests who are placed with them.
The guests had varying disabilities and they were all encouraged and supported to 'have a go' at every activity. There were varying activities such as a slip and slide, designing an eco-friendly town, water play and climbing activities. These were designed so that all attendees could participate.
We watched one child abseil up the tower, pulled by other members of their team, assisting with developing team work/trust and definitely pushing everyone a bit out of their comfort zone. They had a stage set up for movies, campfire activities and discos. The older leaders supervised the younger children.
We were then treated to a beautiful afternoon tea and, after speaking to some senior members of the team, it was clear just how grateful they were to Quota Jimboomba and to the other sponsors.
The feeling around the camp was one of friendliness, acceptance and welcoming. Robyn and I thoroughly enjoyed our time there and I would recommend that other Quota members go and experience this place as it was magical!'

Recently, Quota Jimboomba turned 35 years old! We are so proud of all that we have achieved during this time, and want to thank every member and person who has contributed and supported us during those years.
Thank you to President Janet for holding a birthday brunch at her place. It was a great time with games, fellowship, fun and delicious food! Thank you also to G*e and her daughter for the special cake, and to Janet's daughter who helped with the yummy food.
On the day, we also presented Jean with her 30 years of service badge. What an awesome achievement!
We apologise that some members aren't in the photos as some of these photos didn't turn out on the day.

Today we were back at the Beauy Show and what a busy day it was!
Thank you so much to all of the members who helped, and also to Hayley and Samantha for assisting on the day. Once again, Wendy put in the full day keeping it all running smoothly.

On Wednesday, some of the Quota Jimboomba members had the honour of presenting Father's Day gifts to the residents of Jimboomba Community Aged Care.
It was such a delight to see the appreciation and pleasure on the faces of the recipients.
A special thanks to Di Taylor Real Estate for their sponsorship and donation.
