🎉 Congratulations to Exeter Primary School – Tasmania's State Finalist in the Paint Australia Beautiful Mural Competition! 🎨

Located on the back wall of the school swimming pool, visible from both the Grade 1/2 and Grade 3-6 playgrounds, and even spotted by the local community from the nearby walking track, this mural is more than just art – it's a legacy project! Shaped by Student Peer Leaders, it's designed to grow over time as future generations of Grade 6 Peer Leaders add their own voice and stewardship.

The design flows with the silhouette of Kanamaluka (the Tamar River), inspired by the book Beneath the Tamar, celebrating the river's wonder alongside the Tamar Valley's mountains and rich local biodiversity. It also champions sustainable practices like waste sorting and recycling, while the Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags honour the diversity and cultures within the school community.

A beautiful reflection of Exeter's values – Be Your Best, Care for the Rest, Be Safe – and a wonderful example of students as active custodians of Kanamaluka and champions for Tasmania's environment. Well done, Exeter Primary! 💚🌊

We've reached the final day of Keep Australia Beautiful Week!

Today's challenge is to Care by enjoying a zero-waste picnic outdoors.

Pack your lunch in reusable containers, bring a refillable drink bottle, cloth napkins and reusable cutlery, and skip single-use plastics wherever you can. It's a great way to enjoy nature while reducing waste.

Before you leave, make sure you take everything home with you - and if you spot a few stray pieces of litter, why not leave the space even better than you found it?

Together, these simple habits help protect wildlife, support biodiversity and keep Australia's beautiful places healthy for generations to come.

Today's challenge is to Connect with your community through a clean-up.

Invite a friend, neighbour or family member to spend just 30 minutes cleaning up a local beach, park, creek, sports ground or walking trail.

Every wrapper, bottle and piece of litter you remove helps protect wildlife, waterways and biodiversity while creating cleaner, healthier places for everyone to enjoy. Together, small actions create lasting change.

Today's challenge is to Immerse yourself in nature.

Head to a local bushwalk, reserve or nature trail and slow down. Leave the headphones behind and take time to notice the texture of tree bark, the scent of the bush, native flowers, fungi, insects and birds along the way.

As you explore, remember to Leave Only Your Footprints. Take only photos, leave only footprints, and always take your rubbish home. Keeping our trails litter-free helps protect the plants, animals and ecosystems that make these places so special.

Next week Keep Australia Beautiful Week 2026 kicks off!

From Mon 3rd – Sun 9th August, we'll be celebrating Beautiful Spaces – Happy Places and inviting Australians everywhere to take part in our Nature Immersion Challenge.

Over seven days, we'll explore simple ways to reconnect with nature, appreciate our environment and recognise the important role beautiful spaces play in supporting our wellbeing.

Whether you complete one challenge or all seven, every moment spent in nature is a chance to slow down, recharge and strengthen your connection with the places we all share.
