A fantastic opportunity to connect with our friends in Punta Arenas today! 🐧🩵

We came together to practice our Spanish skills, share insights into the AYC across continents and explore opportunities for mentorship along the way.

As a group we discussed what being a part of the AYC means to each of us and how important each of our cities is in connecting Antarctica and amplifying the voices of young people as multicultural points of connection within our global community.

On Monday, the team met up to start planning our Midwinter event! We shared whale-tail cookies and ideas on how to best get involved with our partners in Punta Arenas () all the way over here in Hobart.

On Saturday we visited the Mawson’s Huts Replica Museum and had a private storytelling afternoon with one of the amazing volunteers, Pete. We not only learned about Mawson and the men of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, but also explored the wider story of Australian Antarctic history and why it still matters for the future.

A special thank you to the Mawson’s Huts Foundation, the organisation dedicated to conserving and protecting the original huts at Cape Denison in Antarctica. Through their conservation work, research, and education programs, they ensure that this extraordinary chapter of Antarctic history is preserved for future generations.

We are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome and the passion for sharing these stories. 💙

On Monday, some of our AYC Hobart members attended the Lord Mayor’s Lunch.

It was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with the Lord Mayor and discuss Hobart’s important role as a gateway city to Antarctica. The group also had a chance to share what’s next for AYC as we continue building momentum.

On December 1st some of the AYC team had the exciting opportunity to explore Aurora Expeditions’ newest addition to their Antarctic fleet, the Mawson Douglas.

We were honoured to be invited to an incredible ship tour and to an amazing and delicious dinner onboard. ❄️🚢

We’d also like to thank the Mawson’s Huts Foundation for including us among their guests for this occasion and to Aurora Expeditions for a remarkable experience.

The AYC Hobart is joining Antarctica Day at IMAS this Monday, 1 December!

We’ve planned an immersive trivia and networking event for attendees and any young people curious about Antarctica.

Spanish for Antarcticans! 🐧

Today marks the first day of our Spanish for Antarcticans language program with the Antarctic Youth Coalition! AYC members will explore beginner-friendly, conversational Spanish through Antarctic-themed lessons and a few interactive practice sessions with AYC Punta Arenas!

This program is part of the Antarctic Youth Coalition: From Punta Arenas to Hobart project, supported by COALAR and led by the University of Tasmania, in collaboration with the City of Hobart and AYC Punta Arenas.

Through this initiative, we’re strengthening cultural, linguistic, and professional connections between two key Antarctic gateway cities - Nipaluna/Hobart, Australia, and Punta Arenas, Chile. Together we’re reinforcing our shared role in the global Antarctic community 🇦🇶

Board game night for AYC Hobart! 🎲

Some of the group got together for a few rounds of Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza and Tortuga 1667.

There was a call to play Monopoly… but we didn’t want to be there until morning. As much fun as we were having, we’ve got jobs too. 😉

Last monday 28 July, 20+ young people came together at the Youth Arts & Recreation Centre Hobart to learn about something special — the Antarctic Youth Coalition (AYC) Hobart chapter.

The night was packed with ideas and inspiration: stories from the Punta Arenas chapter in Chile, AYC’s mission to protect Antarctica, and how our Hobart members can connect with partners here and around the world. This event was also a moment to meet new friends!

Who can join the AYC?
• Young people aged 18–35
• Climate‑conscious individuals + Antarctic enthusiasts
• Anyone ready to step up and be part of something bigger

No Antarctic experience? No problem. Bring your energy, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
