Exciting news: Peter will be heading to Beijing later this month to speak at the STOC Plant 2025 workshop! He’ll be sharing how genetic and eco-evolutionary insights can help build climate-ready ecosystems and strengthen long-term biodiversity resilience.

These approaches not only enhance restoration success, but are becoming increasingly important as countries adopt robust environmental markets — including the UK’s Biodiversity Net Gain framework and Australia’s Nature Repair Market. Ensuring restored ecosystems are genetically resilient is critical for long-term ecological, social and financial outcomes.

This invitation is a wonderful chance to represent EcoAdapt Consulting on the international stage and to connect with researchers from around the world who are working on the same challenges we’re passionate about.

I’ll be sharing new research on genetic-informed seed transfer zones and how they can be used to create seed mixes best adapted to future climates - a step towards climate-proofing Tasmania’s forests and natural resources through climate-ready regeneration strategies

🌿 Resilience in Action 🌿

Fantastic to see this story on ABC News about Eucalyptus risdonii, a species once thought to be highly range-restricted, now showing signs of resilience and adaptability in the face of changing conditions. Even better, we're proud to have contributed to this important work through our ecological modelling that helped identify potential habitat areas where E. risdonii could persist and expand.

At EcoAdapt Consulting, we use spatial ecology and climate adaptation modelling to help land managers, councils, and conservation groups plan for the future. For E. risdonii, our models mapped current and future suitable habitat based on climate projections, topography and soil attributes, supporting evidence-based decisions for targeted restoration and habitat protection.

This is a brilliant example of how applied ecological science and practical land management can work together to secure biodiversity outcomes in a changing world.

Plant scientist Rebecca Jones recommends planting the heat-tolerant Risdon peppermint, which is currently found only on Hobart's eastern shore.
