👷 WORKING BEE - THIS SATURDAY 27TH

Fellow Rewind-a-holics! As you’d know, we’re asking our community (you!) for all hands on deck for our move out.

By the end of July, our entire warehouse has to be stripped of our beloved communities history, and handed back to our landlord as a grey slate - with everyone’s help to keep us going!

For our first public working bee, it would mean so much to us to have you drop-in anytime from 10am-4pm this Saturday 27th! There will be many ways you may support us, including:

🏋️ pulling items from shelves and categorize
🏃 moving items to designated zone (Save, Share, Sell, Scrap)
🧑‍🍳 cooking food in our kitchen for everyone
📦 putting Save items in shipping container
💸 making marketplace listings for Sell items, or share with mutual aid networks
♻️ dropping off scrap metal and deal with other recyclables
🌳 green team! pruning and green waste with us!

⏪ REWIND UPDATE – PLEASE WATCH ⏪

After months of negotiations, we’ve made the difficult decision to move out of our warehouse. Due to exorbitant rent increases and rising costs, we can no longer afford to run Rewind Sound & Studios in this building.

As a collective, we unanimously decided not to accept new lease terms. Meeting these costs would place an unreasonable strain on our members and volunteers and force us to redirect our energy away from community and into simply trying to keep the doors open.

Rewind (formerly Animal House) was founded in this space in 2010. For 16 years, this warehouse has been home to artist studios, gigs, rehearsals, workshops, markets, political organising, and countless creative projects and friendships. This place means a hell of a lot to a lot of people.

But to be clear: Rewind is moving out - we are not shutting down.

Over the next six months, we’ll continue our activities while we look for what comes next. We’re ready to adapt, and we’re going to need our community with us.

You can support us by:
📦 Joining our weekly working bees (Saturdays, 10am–2pm) to help us pack down
🌱 Joining our Supporter Program and becoming a monthly donor
📣 Joining our mailing list to stay in the loop
🤝 Sending through any leads on commercial properties available for lease or purchase
🎉 Coming to our farewell party on 11 July

The loss of Rewind isn’t an isolated event. Across the continent, community spaces, arts venues and grassroots projects are being priced out and pushed aside. As long as we remain dependent on landlords and rising commercial rents, spaces like ours will always be vulnerable.

We’re fundraising for a new home for Rewind, ideally through buying a community-controlled space. We don’t know exactly what comes next, but we know what we’ve built together is worth fighting for.

Thank you to everyone who has made this place what it is. This building may be changing, but the community that created Rewind isn’t going anywhere.

LGBTQuiz+ was a HOOT! We had such a blast hosting this event as part of Fringe 2026. 🎉 🌈

Thank you everyone who came and got amongst the trivia, corny one-liners, lip syncs and dance challenges.🪩 All profits will go towards Rewind programs, events and improvements.
