The second significant fire attended by Londonderry Rural Fire Brigade inside the last 48 hours, prior to this mornings fire, Londonderry Pumper responded to a caravan fire at Riverstone late on Tuesday night. Londonderry provided breathing apparatus crew at both incidents.

🔥 BUSH FIRE DANGER PERIOD – FIRE PERMITS REQUIRED

October marks the official start of the Bush Fire Danger Period across most of NSW, including all six Local Government Areas within the Western Sydney District:

📍 Blacktown
📍 Camden
📍 Campbelltown
📍 Fairfield
📍 Liverpool
📍 Penrith

If you’re planning to conduct a burn, it’s important to know the rules before you light up.

🔥 During the Bush Fire Danger Period, a Fire Permit is required before lighting a fire in the open.

🏡 All six Local Government Areas within the Western Sydney District also require approval or permission from the relevant Council for open burning.

📢 In addition to obtaining the necessary approvals and Fire Permit, residents and landholders must notify their neighbours and the relevant fire authority at least 24 hours before lighting the fire.

Fire Permits and notification requirements help ensure fire is used safely and reduce the risk to you, your property and the wider community.

Before conducting any burn, make sure you understand the requirements that apply to your property and have all necessary approvals in place.

Following posts on local facebook groups today regarding a large number of fire vehicles in Londonderry and surrounds this afternoon and evening, to reassure locals, Londonderry Rural Fire Brigade and numerous other fire appliances from the NSW RFS and FRNSW attended a reported building fire at Londonderry Public School this evening. After investigations, it was found that there was no fire and all was well. Earlier in the afternoon Londonderry RFB and other crews responded to a vehicle fire in Londonderry and earlier this evening Londonderry RFB and other crews responded to an actual building fire in Castlereagh. It's certainly been a busy afternoon and evening for our crews.

Did you remember to change the clocks forward today?

While you’re doing the rounds changing the microwave, the clock in the car, and any others you missed, it’s a great reminder to test your smoke alarms!

Best practice is to test them every month and change the battery if it doesn’t beep, make a routine of changing the batteries every 12 months and if the unit itself is older than ten years, change it out for a new one!

Only working smoke alarms can save lives and buy you precious time in an emergency.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of parts of Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and Sydney areas.

Issued: 4:40 pm AEDT 3 October 2026.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:35 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Castlereagh.

This thunderstorm is moving towards the south-east. It is forecast to affect Penrith, Horsley Park and Riverstone by 5:05 pm and Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park and Bankstown by 5:35 pm.
