🚒 New Hose Racking Delivered! 🚒

We have recently received and put together our new portable hose racking, making our storage more efficient, safer and easier to access and transport as needed!

We’d like to express our gratitude to the Rural Fire Service Association for providing us with a grant to fund our latest addition.

Today we proudly celebrate one of our own, Michael Kovacs, on receiving the Australian Fire Service Medal in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours. 🚒👏

This recognition is incredibly well deserved and reflects the many years of dedication, commitment, leadership and service Michael has given — not only to the RFS, but to the wider community, especially Londonderry!

Volunteering in emergency services comes with sacrifice, countless hours, missed family moments, and a quiet commitment to always being there when needed. Michael has shown that dedication time and time again, and this honour is a testament to the impact he has made over many years.

On behalf of everyone at Londonderry RFS, congratulations Michael on this outstanding and well-earned achievement. We are incredibly proud of you.

Last month the Londonderry RFS team were invited to visit our littlest locals at Londonderry Early Learning Centre to support their learning project about “mateship”, where they have been exploring different people and groups who help others in their community. 🚨

We brought a truck and a few crew members to give an introduction to some fire safety, some of our equipment and protective clothing, and let the children have a hands on learning experience while getting to know us and how we can help them. 🚒

With some of the older children we practiced the all important phone number to access help “zero zero zero” ‼️0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣‼️

We were met by lots of excited faces, got to answer some questions, shared some laughs and stories, and we were so grateful to receive a care package as part of their project with some superb sweet treats and a lovely lasagna that we shared with the whole team for our AGM. 😋

We’d like to thank Kim and the team at Londonderry ELC for inviting us to visit, their kindness and hospitality, and the littlest locals for their enthusiasm and intrigue! 🙏

If you have a group of little locals who would like a visit from their local RFS team, we’d love to hear from you! 📨

We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic incident that occurred last night with Marine Rescue NSW members. Our thoughts are with their family, friends, colleagues and all those affected by this incident. Rest in Peace.

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.

Good Afternoon to our Londonderry Community. Please see the post shared below and the link below for the notification of Whitegates Road South (West) Hazard Reduction planned for this Friday 24/04/2026.

https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/hazard-reductions

NOTICE OF PROPOSED HAZARD REDUCTION
Please be advised that crews from NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) are intending to undertake Hazard Reduction (HR) burning, weather permitting, at the following location this week.

Location
Londonderry Road & Whitegates Road Londonderry
Day
Friday 24th April

This hazard reduction burn is approximately 29.81ha in size.

As the prescribed burn will generate smoke, hot embers and heat, it is important that you consider the following:
• Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes;
• Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns;
• Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage;
• Remove washing from clotheslines;
• Ensure pets have a protected area;
• If you are driving a vehicle, slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on; and
• If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities. If smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice

For health information relating to smoke from bush fires and hazard reduction burning, visit the NSW Health website or Asthma Australia
You can also obtain additional information on prescribed burning and property preparedness by accessing the NSW Rural Fire Service website at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au or download the hazards near me app.
