In the words of Ambulance Victoria: "When a rockfall injured two hikers in the Grampians recently, a bushwalking group's quick actions helped emergency services respond fast."

We asked Liesbeth Long, President of the Central Goldfields Bushwalking & Hiking Club, and BWV Board Member, to share the story of their very challenging day on Hollow Mountain in the Grampians.

Hi BBC Members, WE NEED YOU!

On Sunday 4th October Bayside Bushwalking Club is running a walk at Devil Bend Reservoir (leader Wendy Purves) in partnership with Bayside Council Seniors Program. We have several keen walkers from Bayside but need more club members, so they get the real friendly club experience in the outdoors.There are 7 more places for club members, go online and book on the trip. Another VERY popular activity offered by BBC are our midweek public transport walks. Members travel by PTV or Vline to explore both urban and regional places. On Thur (17th) 18 members travelled to Little River for a circuit walk experiencing the history and culture of the area.

Bayside Bushwalking Club offers its members a wide range of activities and trips to sign up for. On Wed 16/09/2026 12 members caught the train to Crib Point and had a day cycling a section of the Western Port Bay Trail.

THE WAIT IS OVER: THE SEALERS COVE TRACK IS OPEN!

Nearly five years after storm damage, Parks Victoria has confirmed that the direct track from Telegraph Saddle to Sealers Cove is now open! PV crews have worked tirelessly to build a brand-new, resilient boardwalk to replace the destroyed section, completely restoring this iconic Wilsons Prom hike.

This major milestone comes after dedicated advocacy. Back in July 2023, Bushwalking Victoria past presidents Robyn Shingles and Mike Grant, alongside Andrew Knight from Outdoors Victoria, met with Ingrid Stitt MP (the then Minister for the Environment) to advocate for our outdoor community. A key issue we raised was the delays in repairing Wilsons Prom infrastructure, highlighting the urgent need for works on the Sealers Cove boardwalks. This collaborative effort helped secure a $4.8 million investment to rebuild the boardwalk after the 2021 storms.

We’re half way through September and Spring has certainly sprung! There have been many day walks completed this month and a base camp in Sydney. BBC has 8 day walks and a bike ride for the rest of September with many oversubscribed.

Check out the walks program for October to plan ahead! Thanks to our fabulous leaders for putting up so many opportunities to explore the outdoors.
