Our thoughts are with Timmy's family during this awful time. All workers deserve to return home in the same condition they left for work that day. Safety comes first - over pressure from your employer or anyone else. If you feel unsafe on the job, take a step back and give us a call - 1800 298 753

A MAJOR problem the traffic control industry is facing, is the epidemic of SHAM contracts.
This is where a company will hire you as an employee, but tell you that you are an independent contractor requiring an ABN.
This is ILLEGAL, and is robbing workers of their entitlements and super contributions.
Have you or someone you know experienced this? Let each other know which employers to steer clear of in the comments section below.
Join the AWU today; together, we can put an end to sham contracts: https://go.awu.net.au/join

‘Three serious accidents in one week, and a worker who was killed at work just doing their job. How long will this continue until the traffic industry, WorkSafe and the Victorian Government make serious changes to make the industry a safer one? Every worker deserves to return home safely at the end of each day.

The AWU member’s family is in our thoughts at this difficult time.’
-Ben Davis, Victorian Branch Secretary

The AWU is putting dodgy operators like D&D Traffic on notice!

The AWU took D&D Traffic's shonky agreement to the Fair Work Commission, who sided with us, and ordered the employer to pay proper overtime rates for overnight workers.

Did you know: if you work irregular and unsociable hours through the night, your employer should pay you either overtime rates or shift penalties.
Night shift that is continuous is paid with a shift allowance; work performed at night that is NOT shift work as defined in the award (not part of a continuous roster) is paid at overtime.
For too long, casual traffic controllers have been short-changed by employers wrongly claiming they’re shift workers, to avoid paying overtime rates.
If you don’t think you’re being paid the correct overtime rates or shift penalties, please contact the AWU NSW Branch today - https://www.awu.net.au/nsw/members/join/

The Australian Workers’ Union is the union for Traffic Controllers.
We have created this page as an education resource, and to encourage an industry culture of having each other’s backs.
