Learning that someone you care about is experiencing domestic, family or sexual violence can be confronting. Your presence and support matter more than you may realise.

Give them space to share when they’re ready, listen without judgement, and gently remind them they’re not alone. Knowing someone cares can be a powerful support.

You can find practical ways to support someone here: https://1800respect.org.au/help-and-support/supporting-someone

1800RESPECT counsellors are available to support both you and the person you’re supporting.

Sometimes it’s not just a joke. Don’t stay silent next time you witness disrespect.

This Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month we want you to challenge harmful behaviours and attitudes such as:
➡️ gendered stereotypes
➡️ normalising control as love
➡️ victim blaming
➡️ minimising abuse (both emotional and physical).

Simply by speaking up you can help change the harmful behaviours that underpin violence in our communities.

There are more simple steps you can take to help prevent DFV, learn more at 👉 www.qld.gov.au/dfvpmonth

May is Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Prevention Month - a time to raise awareness about domestic and family violence and coercive control, highlight the support services available, and send a clear message that violence in our communities will not be tolerated.

If you’d like to learn how you can be a better bystander — and be someone who does something — we invite you to join us on Monday, 18 May at Mudgeeraba Community Centre.
