Tenants Queensland is hosting a free event on Friday 23 October at Robina TAFE for senior-aged women who rent.

The event is International Tenants' Day and is a high tea with entertainment, gifts, and prizes (with the lucky door prize being a night at the Hilton Hotel).

We have some lovely news to share ❤️

Our Centre has been nominated in Meaghan Scanlon MP’s 2026 Community Impact Awards — recognition that we are incredibly proud of, but which really belongs to our whole community.

A neighbourhood centre is never just a building, and it is certainly never just the people whose names happen to be on the door.

It is our staff and volunteers, our supporters and community partners, and most importantly, the people who walk through our doors and trust us to support them, advocate alongside them, celebrate with them and sometimes simply sit beside them when life gets tough.

This nomination is a reflection of all of you. ❤️

The awards are decided by public vote, so if our Centre has made a difference to you, your family or someone you know, we would be incredibly grateful for your support.

And while you’re there, you may notice two other familiar names. 😊

Our very own Vicky Rose has also been nominated for Community Advocate of the Year and Lisa Souwer for Volunteer of the Year.

Vicky would be the first to tell you that advocacy is never the work of one person. Her nomination reflects many years of people working together, sharing their stories, standing up for their communities and believing that sometimes, if you make enough noise for long enough, things really can change. ❤️

Lisa too, has spent many years ensuring our community has a friendly and welcoming place to come and get a hand up via our Food Service. She has consistently and tirelessly poured herself into this integral and vital community program. ❤️

So we’re celebrating all three nominations for what they are — recognition of a whole lot of people doing their bit for our community.

If you’d like to take part in the voting, you can find all of the nominees here:

https://meaghanscanlon.com/what-meaghan-s-working-on/meaghan-scanlon-community-awards-voting/

Voting closes 12 noon Friday 9 October.

Thank you, as always, for being part of our Centre and our community. Whatever the outcome, we’re pretty chuffed just to have the work recognised. ❤️
