Tips to stay updated and to protect your home:
* Register for updates and alerts from the City of Gold Coast by going to gold coast dashboard on the City of Gold Coast website
* if you have a closed in garage remove the man hole cover to stop the suction effect.
* ensure your wheelie bins are secured ie: tied to the fence or bought into your garage, bins become missiles im strong winds.
* pack your emergency kit incase you need to leave quickly and get to the nearest evacuation centre.
* Familiarise yourself with the nearest evacuation centre.
* If you have to evacuate and you have a pet, you can take the pet with you, but your pet wonβt be allowed to stay with you, you pet will be taken to a safe place and looked after by animal management until it is safe to return home.
* Move all outdoor furniture inside or a safe place. If your furniture is plastic, throw it into the pool like the big hotels do. This keeps your furniture from ending up at the neighbours.
* Fill jugs/drink bottles of water up and place them on the bench or in the fridge.
* if it is flooding please donβt go sight seeing, the safest place to stay up to date is with your local news.
* dust of the tins of baked beans from the back of the cupboard off, and have them on standby incase you lose power (you might want to bring the pegs in too π)
* keep flash lights and candles close by and fill your gas bottle for the BBQ
* Battery powered radios are also great to have on standby.
* check on your elderly neighbours to ensure they are ok. Some home care providers may not be able to get to their clients, so it is important to ensure they are ok.
* if you have a fibreglass pool do not empty it, just backwash when needed otherwise you might find it will pop out of the ground.
Stay safe team and keep walking through the storm, your rainbow is on the other side π
