Tax the gas industry its fair share! Australia Institute research shows a 25% tax on gas exports could solve the gas crisis – and raise $17 billion every year at the same time. ✍️ Add your name now >

Do we the people want this?

URGENT CALL TO ACTION
Do you consider there is no place for beach bars on Gold Coast beaches? Then you have just one business day (Monday 20 April 2026) to contact Councillors and tell them to vote against changes proposed that would allow “beachside dining” (i.e. beach bars) in our Bathing Reserves. This is a dangerous precedent.
Council’s own community engagement in 2024 on the Broadbeach foreshore plan and Kurrawa Beach Club option confirmed 78% of the 1,100 submissions received were opposed to the proposed beach club/bar [read full report here: https://www.communityalliance.org.au/s/Broadbeach-Foreshore-LMP-COMMUNITY-ENGAGEMENT-REPORT.pdf].

Our letter explains the details [refer: https://www.communityalliance.org.au/s/Beachside-Dining-Letter-to-Planning-Committee-20260417.pdf] and has been sent to all members of the Council Planning Committee, who are meeting on Tuesday 21 April to consider this completely inappropriate change. The contact emails of the Planning Committee members are in the letter so you can send your own email to all of them. Simply say “Please reject proposed changes to the Local Law that would allow beachside dining as a designated permitted business within our Bathing Reserves.” Add your name and address and hit Send.

Background information
The Community Alliance Association has long been opposed to the commercialisation and privatization of our wonderful beaches. These are public assets owned by all in the community, not by the council, who seem determined to ignore majority community sentiment and commercialise our beaches. The Council is proposing to change its Local Law for Bathing Reserves to allow approval of “beachside dining” as a designated permitted business, starting with “trials” at Kurrawa and Surfers Paradise Surf Life Saving Clubs. “Beachside dining” is code for commercial food and beverage service (i.e. a beach bar) within our Bathing Reserves, either on the beach sand seaward of the vegetated dunes or on public parkland inland of the dunes.
Community Alliance Assoc considers the Gold Coast already has a great offering for beachside food and beverage within the clubhouses of our surf lifesaving clubs.
But when it comes to extending that offering out in front of these clubs, over the dune and down onto the sand, that is a step too far.

A majority of people according to The Australia Institute research and polling support the 25% gas export levy.

We don’t need to lose our compassion and our humanity to have a fair and robust immigration policy that supports asylum seekers and people pursuing a peaceful and prosperous life with equal opportunities for all. We should not ever discriminate on country of origin, religion or colour.

18/04/2026

Are you with this policy/opinion. Please let us Leon what you think.

Yes! 👏👏👏.

Yes! 👏👏👏.

A robust and credible immigration framework is essential, and we need honest, ethical national leadership to ensure this policy debate is evidence-based, reflects our values and works to strengthen our society.

Not stoke fear or division.

Our modern Australian story celebrates our diversity and welcomes people from all faiths and corners of the world.

Just this week, Australia has celebrated sprinter Gout Gout after his record-breaking performance. His family fled South Sudan before building a life here – something Australians are proud of.

Our migration system already requires people to commit to our values and pass language tests.

Earlier this year, new laws tightened immigration controls to cancel or refuse visas on the basis of hate speech or advocating violent extremism. It's important the government does more to explain how the current system works.

Our humanitarian obligations to refugees and asylum seekers are separate to skilled and temporary migration. Mr Taylor blurring that line is disingenuous at best, divisive at worst. The proposal from the Coalition has no detail regarding how it could even be operationalised or effective.

Singling people out based on where they come from, including people fleeing the war in Gaza, is deeply concerning and inconsistent with a fair rules-based system.

Australians expect better of our leaders.

They’re coming, in fact, they’re already here.
