Wildlife Queensland Gold Coast & Hinterland

Wildlife Queensland Gold Coast & Hinterland The Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland is Queensland's oldest environmental conservation not-for-profit organisation.

The Gold Coast & Hinterland branch of Wildlife Queensland acts as a network for people and organisations, educating and engaging the local community within the region. The Gold Coast branch was established in 1964 and has spearheaded a range of campaigns and projects within the region and beyond. With the original founders Judith Wright and David Fleay spearheading the world's first 'Fight for the

Great Barrier Reef campaign'. Wildlife Queensland Gold Coast aims to support the region through education campaigns and engaging the community in conservation efforts. The Gold Coast and the Hinterland is home to a wide array of native species many of which are considered Vulnerable and Critically Endangered. It is the mission of Wildlife Queensland Gold Coast to generate awareness of these species and educate locals on what they can do to help preserve habitats and support the survival of native fauna and flora. Wildlife Queensland Gold Coast is a volunteer lead organisation. As such every little bit of community support is vital and goes a long way to ensuring Wildlife Queensland Gold Coast will continue to have a strong presence within the region.

🌿 From Coomera Conservation Group. A significant milestone for conservation on the northern Gold Coast! 🌿
McCoys Creek Wetland has been recognised as Queensland’s second Conserved Area and Australia’s first Conserved Area to be managed by a local government authority.
Covering 146 hectares in East Coomera/Pimpama, the wetland forms a critical part of the Northern Koala Corridor and supports an impressive range of wildlife, including koalas, tusked frogs, water mice and the Moreton Bay lily. The site also contains nationally significant wetlands and threatened ecological communities.
This recognition acknowledges the outstanding biodiversity values of McCoys Creek and the importance of protecting and managing these habitats into the future.
For local conservation groups and community members who have advocated for the protection of wildlife corridors and habitat connectivity across the northern Gold Coast, this is a welcome and encouraging step. Protecting areas such as McCoys Creek helps safeguard not only individual species, but the broader landscape connections that wildlife depend upon to survive and thrive.
Congratulations to all involved in achieving this important conservation outcome for our region. 🐨🌿https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Jf95R2Pqb/
