OUR PHILOSOPHY
We provide support to our Defence personnel - the deployed, the wounded and their families. They give more, risk more and sacrifice more, and we will repay that debt. We are a broad community organisation, not an ex-service one. Wounded Heroes will not detract from the work of ex-service organisations, either by taking away from their fundraising or duplicating their activities. W
e want to be seen as a valuable addition to service-related and ex- service organisations, not a rival. OUR STORY SO FAR
In the last two years, with the help of our supporters in the community, we have raised almost $300,000 in money, goods and services for the benefit of the families of ADF personnel serving on operations around the globe. This support was to alleviate hardship, and to assist families in the absence of loved ones. Following on from this, we have now turned our attention to the wounded and their families. Our Wounded Heroes programs will support this growing group of heroes and their families, as well as continue our support to the families of all deployed personnel when needed. OUR GOVERNANCE
Wounded Heroes is a project of the Deployed Soldier’s Welfare Committee Inc, a philanthropic association raising and distributing approved grants and other financial assistance for the welfare, benefit and support of families of service personnel deployed on ADF operations, and wounded service personnel and ex-service personnel and their families. We utilise the skills and benevolent intentions of appropriate supporters, ambassadors and champions who will give of their time freely and without reward. An experienced and qualified committee is responsible for achieving the objectives of the association, and meeting legal, taxation and fiduciary responsibilities. In the Middle East, Iraq, Afghanistan, East Timor and elsewhere, Australia's heroes continue to do their duty. Wounded Heroes Association Incorporated is a Registered Australian Public Benevolent Institution No. 91 644 109 140 and is endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) from 23 Jul 2014. It is covered by Item 1 of the table in section 30-15 of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997. Wounded Heroes specifically supports the Defence Forces diggers and their families in times of need. The wounds of returned soldiers or at times the needs of family members affected because of their loved ones being IN the Defence forces, either on deployment or returned from deployment are an area not easily addressed or accessible through other Defence services. Our charity space is for the family in need, in their time of need, with crisis funds Often we are the last contact for them and we endeavour to provide assistance by providing a quick turnaround of funds. Most requests come through ADF command, so are approved as a genuine and more than often, an urgent need.
