Reason to Thrive, our ELF for Ipswich and Western Brisbane says it perfectly 🫶

It's been a very busy few months at RTT, with our team delivering programs across schools, support agencies and organisations across Brisbane, Ipswich and beyond.

We are incredibly grateful for the growing demand for our Equine Assisted Learning programs and the opportunities we have to work alongside so many young people, families, educators, and support services.

One question we are often asked is, "Why don't you post more photos of the young people you work with?"

The simple answer is privacy.

Many of the participants who attend our programs are navigating significant challenges in their lives. Some are experiencing difficulties at school, others are working through personal, family, social, or emotional challenges, and many are participating in programs funded by government agencies, schools, or support services. Protecting their privacy, dignity, and confidentiality is something we take very seriously.

For this reason, you will often see photos of our horses, our team, our arenas, and the beautiful environments we work in rather than the participants themselves. While we love celebrating the incredible growth, courage, and achievements we witness every day, our first responsibility is ensuring that young people feel safe, respected, and supported.

Behind every horse photo, there are stories of young people developing confidence, learning to regulate emotions, strengthening communication skills, reconnecting with education, and discovering that they are capable of far more than they may have believed.

Although we can't always share the faces or stories, please know that important work is happening every day, and we are privileged to be part of those journeys.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our programs, our horses, and the young people we serve.

Thank you Ansvar Insurance for your help when we asked 🫶

In week 5, during a calm-leading exercise, everything shifted for Frankie (pseudonym). Instead of tightening the rope, he paused. He looked at his horse, breathed slowly, and softened his shoulders. We guided him gently, helping him find steadiness instead of force.
He tried again — this time with kindness, calm confidence, and a voice he didn’t know he had.
“Walk on.”
His horse stepped forward willingly, right beside him.
Frankie stopped, stunned. Then he whispered the words that stayed with all of us:
“He listened to me when I used kindness… I didn’t have to act angry. I was safe to feel everything" The facilitator helped Frankie to find this new voice. "He listened to me when I didn’t think anyone would.”
That moment wasn’t just about leading a horse.
It was about a young person discovering that gentleness could be powerful, that emotions didn’t have to be feared, and that he was capable of leading with confidence rather than anger.
These are the moments that shape lives far beyond the arena.
And it is support from partners like ANSVAR that makes these transformations possible. Their commitment to community programs ensures that young people who feel unheard, unsafe, or unseen can find connection, courage, and a way forward.

When Frankie joined the Horse Whispering Youth Program, anger was his only language. His horse, Jasper, mirrored his tension — until one day, Frankie paused, softened, and said: “Walk on, Jasper.”

True to his name, Zeus carries both strength and presence, yet it is his kindness, patience and willingness to connect that make him such a special teacher for our participants.

If your child is being bullied, there is help. The Queensland Government is tackling bullying by giving parents new and expanded supports, including: a 7-day-a-week parent HOTLINE with trained counsellors Parentline Qld + NT, and helping many state schools with more on the ground support from chaplains and dedicated wellbeing staff, and rapid support teams into bullying hotspots.

Talk to a Horse, and Reset Your Course in Term 3 - we are now taking enrolments at 6 of our 7 facilitators - one is already booked out so get in touch to secure your place.

Over these 8 weeks with their horses, our participants learn far more than horsemanship. They learn resilience, leadership and self-belief.

Most importantly, they learn that even when life feels challenging, they have the ability to pause, reset and choose a new direction.

A horse does not choose its favorite person by accident. This isn’t imagination. It’s biology.

Modern science reveals that horses do far more than recognize humans — they remember emotions, synchronize physiologically with trusted people, and form genuine emotional bonds built on safety, consistency, and trust.
