Honouring a Legacy Through Giving Back – Blood Donation Campaign 2025

The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Alumni Association – Australia Chapter proudly organised a Blood Donation Campaign on Saturday, 11th October 2025, at the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood Centre, Mt Waverley and various interstate locations, to commemorate the death anniversary of General Sir John Kotelawala.

This noble initiative was a heartfelt tribute to our beloved benefactor, whose generosity and vision continue to inspire generations of KDU graduates. Members from all Australian states joined hands in this meaningful act of service, demonstrating the unity and compassion that lie at the heart of our alumni community.

The campaign saw enthusiastic participation, with all 16 appointment slots filled by members and their families. Many participants went above and beyond by encouraging their friends to join, extending the spirit of giving beyond our alumni circle.

A special note of appreciation goes to the ladies who volunteered their time and energy to make the event a success. Your dedication truly reflected the values of selflessness and community that General Sir John Kotelawala stood for.

Through this collective effort, we not only honoured a great leader but also made a tangible impact by helping save lives. Each donation represents hope for up to three patients in need, turning remembrance into genuine compassion in action.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who participated, supported, and promoted this initiative. Your contribution made this event a resounding success and a fitting tribute to the enduring legacy of General Sir John Kotelawala.

AMENDMENT TO THE RULES FOR THE CONDUCT OF UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMMES OF KDU UNDER ANNEX 03: MEDICINE AS SECTION 60 FOR THE AWARD OF FALL- BACK QUALIFICATION, THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN HEALTH SCIENCES AT GENERAL SIR JOHN KOTELAWALA DEFENCE UNIVERSITY
60. The Award of Fall-back Qualification – The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences:
60.1 A candidate who has passed the Third MBBS Part I and Part II examinations, but is unable to fulfill the requirements for the award of the MBBS degree within the stipulated time period or the stipulated number of attempts, is eligible to apply for the award of the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences.
60.2 A candidate who is eligible shall apply to the Dean, Faculty of Medicine within three months of the confirmation of the results of the Final MBBS examination. The application can be downloaded in the Faculty of Medicine website.
60.3 The application will be assessed by a committee appointed by the Faculty Board to assess if the applicant has fulfilled the requirements to be eligible to sit for the exit interview for the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences.
60.4 The candidate should pass the exit interview conducted by the Faculty of Medicine.
60.5 A candidate who is awarded the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences shall not be eligible for the Diploma in Human Biology, Higher Diploma in Human Biology or the MBBS degree at KDU.
60.6 A candidate who is awarded the MBBS degree is not eligible to apply subsequently for Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Sciences.
60.7 A candidate awarded the Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Sciences, will forfeit the right to continue in the MBBS degree program of the KDU and will not be allowed to surrender the degree at a later date and rejoin the MBBS program.
60.8 The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences will NOT entitle the holder to register with the Sri Lanka Medical Council to work as a medical practitioner.
60.9 Candidates shall sign an affidavit stating that he/she has understood the conditions stipulated above.
