The ending of the Adelaide Rock’n’Roll Festival after fifteen years, left a gaping hole in the South Australian events calendar. The Festival Dance Competition had over the years grown to be an integral part of the National circuit, building a reputation as one of, the nation’s best. night Dance Workshop, often using the talents of visiting Interstate teachers, here for the Festival Dance Comp attracted good numbers. These events were too valuable to abandon, so a group was formed which aims to keep the Competition and evening dance going, within the framework of a broader weekend Festival. It was decided not to form another Club to do this, rather a Foundation, which would work with Clubs to help kids achieve their individual RnR goals, and support Downs Syndrome Society ‘Club Slick’, who use Rock’n’Roll as a teaching tool for the development of social skills, and general interaction in their children. The name of this new Foundation is SAROCK inc. and the annual Festival …RETROFEST
SAROCK has an elected Board of Management offering Foundation membership at $10 per year. In 2015 Downs Syndrome Society plan to send their ‘Club Slick’ RnR demo kids to the World Downs Conference in India, and SAROCK along with the South Australian Rock’n’Roll community will be helping them to achieve this, by holding benefits..
