🇨🇦 Celebrating a Year of Learning About Canada

Each year at CWA a Country is chosen to study, giving our members the opportunity to learn more about a different country, its history, culture, traditions, people, food and places throughout the year.

This year it was Canada! 🍁

Throughout the year, we explored different aspects of Canadian life and culture, learning something new each month. This year of learning came to a close with a special evening.

It was a wonderful opportunity to share what we had learned, discover a little more about Canada together and, of course, enjoy some delicious Canadian treats including Nanaimo bar, maple tarts, maple bacon and the infamous Beaver Tails!

Our Country of Study is a great example of what we love about CWA, learning together, sharing experiences and discovering more about the world around us, while enjoying plenty of friendship and fun along the way.

Two duffle bags, absolutely jam-packed with love. ❤️

We’re so proud to have donated two bags filled with clothes, toiletries, books and LEGO to Hope in a Suitcase, an incredible organisation supporting children experiencing out-of-home care by providing them with a suitcase of belongings to call their own.

It might seem like a simple bag of things, but for a child going through a difficult and uncertain time, having something that belongs to them can bring a little comfort, dignity and a sense of normality. 💕

And this donation is made possible by our incredible community.

It’s your support of our fundraising efforts that allows us to keep giving back and supporting disadvantaged women, children and families in our local community.

We’re so grateful to have a community that not only supports us, but helps us support others.

Hope In A Suitcase

❤️ 50kg of kindness ❤️

Today, we were very proud to support Lazarus Community Centre with a donation of 50kg of mince, along with a voucher so they can top up their supply when needed.

The mince will be used to prepare nutritious, home-cooked meals for people experiencing some of the toughest times in their lives. Lazarus supports around 60+ people each day, including people experiencing homelessness, family and domestic violence, addiction, illness, social isolation and significant hardship.

A warm, nourishing meal is about so much more than food, it can bring comfort, dignity and a reminder that someone cares. ❤️

This donation is made possible by our wonderful community. Every sausage, every baked good or beanie, and every jar of our homemade relishes helps us raise funds so we can give back to those who need a helping hand.

A very special thank you to Tony and the team at East Geelong’s Quality Butcher, who supplied the mince to us at cost. We are so grateful for their generosity.

It really is a team effort — our volunteers, our wonderful community, local businesses and organisations like Lazarus, all working together to make a difference.

Central Nights members making their mark at State Exhibition.

What a fantastic showing from our Central Nights Branch members at this year’s State Exhibition.

From one class to the next, our members were recognised across a wonderfully diverse range of categories — a great reflection of the talent, creativity and skills within our branch.

Congratulations to all who entered and, of course, to our prize winners. We’re very proud to see Central Nights so strongly represented at State and to celebrate the achievements of our members.

Not long now until the exhibition, and one of our members has been busy in the kitchen preparing her Nanna’s choc chip biscuits, a nostalgic family favourite that she’s hoping will wow the Mayor! 👩‍🍳✨ They look pretty good!

Apparently the oven is on, the recipe books are out and she's already baking. We tried to tell her she only needs four biscuits…

Whether you're a seasoned baker or simply love making a great biscuit, this is your chance to have your baking judged by the Mayor of Greater Geelong, Dr Stretch Kontelj OAM, and CWA Victoria Senior Judge, Pam Mawson OAM.

🏆 Who knows... you might just walk away with the coveted Mayor's Choice title!

So dig out that recipe book, raid the pantry, preheat the oven and start baking.

🍪 Let's make sure the Mayor and our CWA Victoria Senior Judge have the toughest (and tastiest!) job in Geelong by giving them 100's of biscuits to taste!
