Central Nights members making their mark at State Exhibition.

What a fantastic showing from our Central Nights Branch members at this year’s State Exhibition.

From one class to the next, our members were recognised across a wonderfully diverse range of categories — a great reflection of the talent, creativity and skills within our branch.

Congratulations to all who entered and, of course, to our prize winners. We’re very proud to see Central Nights so strongly represented at State and to celebrate the achievements of our members.

Not long now until the exhibition, and one of our members has been busy in the kitchen preparing her Nanna’s choc chip biscuits, a nostalgic family favourite that she’s hoping will wow the Mayor! 👩‍🍳✨ They look pretty good!

Well, Jill has seen the biscuit challenge and she's off! 🍪

Apparently the oven is on, the recipe books are out and she's already baking. We tried to tell her she only needs four biscuits…
She's not listening. 😂

Go Jill! We think the Mayor might need to loosen his belt! 🏆🍪 Who's joining her?

As part of the 91st CWA Victoria Creative Arts Exhibition, we're throwing open the oven door and inviting everyone to enter the Mayor's Choice Biscuit Challenge.

🎉 You don't have to be a CWA member.
🎉 Anyone can enter - included with your exhibition admission

Whether you're a seasoned baker or simply love making a great biscuit, this is your chance to have your baking judged by the Mayor of Greater Geelong, Dr Stretch Kontelj OAM, and CWA Victoria Senior Judge, Pam Mawson OAM.

🏆 Who knows... you might just walk away with the coveted Mayor's Choice title!

So dig out that recipe book, raid the pantry, preheat the oven and start baking.

🍪 Let's make sure the Mayor and our CWA Victoria Senior Judge have the toughest (and tastiest!) job in Geelong by giving them 100's of biscuits to taste!

🧶 Jill has been CRAZY busy knitting squares...

We're starting to think she's secretly training for the Knitting Olympics! 🥇😂

The knitting needles have barely had a rest, the coffee machine deserves a medal ☕☕☕, and the pile of squares just keeps getting bigger!

Why? Because Jill knows every single square helps make a difference, and she wants to do her bit for our community. 💛

Now it's time to take a well-earned break from speed knitting and catch up with all the wonderful people she met at World Knit in Public Day!

So grab your squares (whether you've made one or one hundred!), bring along any yarn or craft supplies you'd like to donate, and join us for a relaxed morning of knitting, chatting, coffee and of course a delicious CWA scone. 🧶☕

🧶 Jill’s Big Knitting Adventure: A Morning to Remember 🧶

What. A. Morning. 💕

Jill turned up absolutely buzzing with excitement — so excited she could barely sleep the night before. She couldn’t wait to come, meet everyone and spend the morning surrounded by yarn and good company.

There were chats, laughs, yarn discussions (serious ones), pattern conversations, new friendships and enough knitting enthusiasm to make Jill wonder if she’d finally found her people.

And yes… Jill got to meet the knitting experts — including the wonderfully talented Melissa, fresh from her big wins at the CWA Exhibition. Jill may or may not have spent time admiring award-winning knitting up close and pretending she wasn’t completely impressed 😍🧶

But what Jill loved most? The people.

So many friendly faces, warm conversations and a whole room full of people happily knitting together for a wonderful cause — creating squares that will become blankets for our local community ❤️

Current status of Jill:
🧶 Inspired
🧶 Slightly obsessed with everyone she meet
🧶 Already wondering when the next knitting catch-up is
🧶 Hoping there might be scones next time 👀

To everyone Jill met — thank you for making it such a joyful morning.

🧶 Eeeeek… only ONE more sleep until World Knit in Public Day! 🎉 Jill is ridiculously excited and would LOVE to see lots of friendly faces there! Come join us - because everything is better with yarn and good company! 🧵💕

🧶 UPDATE: Jill is now EVEN MORE excited! 🧶

Why? Because we can now confirm that Central Nights member Melissa will be joining us for World Knit in Public Day — and Jill is beside herself 😍

You may remember Melissa from our recent CWA Exhibition, where she took out Aggregate in Knitting and the major award for Best in Handicraft for her stunning knitted jumper (yes, the one that had everyone quietly thinking “I could never…” 😅).

Naturally, Jill has immediately upgraded her plans for the morning.

Jill’s updated to-do list:
🧶 Knit in public (obviously)
🧶 Casually sit near Melissa and absorb knitting wisdom
🧶 Ask at least one knitting question
🧶 Admire award-winning handiwork
🧶 Attempt a subtle selfie with knitting greatness 📸😉

Melissa will be there knitting away and happy to chat, answer questions and share tips — whether you’re an experienced knitter or someone who still occasionally mutters “where did I drop that stitch?”

And of course, fellow Central Nights member and President Deb will also be there, looking forward to meeting everyone, sharing a little about CWA and Central Nights, and there may even be a few show bags for the first lucky attendees 🎁

💙 Come for the knitting, stay for the company, and maybe — just maybe — end up in Jill’s selfie.
