One of my favourite parts of Parliament of South Australia sitting weeks is being able to share the extraordinary stories that come out of our communities in the Chamber.

During the last sitting week, I did just that reflecting on the incredible heart ❤️ our community demonstrates daily.

Whether at the Willaston Football Club, The Salvation Army- Riverside Gawler Hope Cup, or dadsgroup to students at Xavier College South Australia, our community look out for each other and put the community and those in need before ourselves.

The Gawler Technical College is officially go !

Just weeks after Lucy Hood MP joined me on a tour of Gawler and District College B-12, the Minister has just been released the plans for our technical colleges which will open doors to the industries of the future such as Defence and Space, whilst also providing a pathway to industries experiencing skills shortages.

The new $50 million Gawler Technical College will offer up to 250 students in Years 10, 11 and 12 full-time industry training.

We know our community is growing, and the commitment made by the Malinauskas South Australian Labor Government to deliver a Technical College in Gawler will ensure that the next generation will have the opportunity to learn new skills in their own postcode, setting them up with skills for life.

I look forward to witnessing these plans come to fruition as our Technical College welcomes its first students in 2028 and I know that our Technical College and its graduates will play a critical role in our state’s prosperity for generations.

The moment that sealed the 2026 The Co-op BLGW GF !

Willaston Football Club def Tanunda to go “Back to Back” in a spectacular day of Country Women’s Footy at Nuriootpa.

The week begun with gawlercentralfc’s Maddison Schmidt taking the 2026 BLGW B&F back to the Dogtack having to accept her award via Zoom late in the night across the tasman in NZ.

And finished with the League’s Leading Goal Kicker, Lily Bornholdt judged Best on Ground in a spirited Grand Final between two rivals.

Today is your last chance to explore the Gawler Community Gallery’s 2026 SALA Exhibit - “Shut your eyes and see”.

The SALA Festival was established in 1998 to promote and celebrate the many talented visual artists in South Australia,Gawler has been a fixture on the festivals programming ever since.

In Parliament last week, I spoke in support of the South Australia Living Artists Festival - my contribution is here !

It’s showtime !

And whilst Day One of this year’s Gawler Show is coming to an end with approx. 15,000 coming through the gates, the excitement isn’t quite done yet with the fireworks set to light up the night from 2015.

And in even better news you can do it all again tomorrow !

It’s takes enormous courage to be comfortable in your own skin.

It takes even more courage to be able to hold your head high in front of your peers.

Yet that’s exactly what Mark Oliphant College Students did at their 7th annual 💜 "Wear it Purple Day” 💜

This year’s “Wear it Purple Day” theme is Colours of Courage which celebrates the many different forms of courage shown by LGBTQIA+SB young people, allies and communities every day.

Today, my simple message is "everyone belongs".

P.S I think it’s safe to say it my socks where a hit !

This week is Book Week.

And away from the fun of book week costumes and parades the week has an important purpose as it seeks to celebrate children's literature whilst turning reading into an exciting, joyful activity that builds lifelong learning habits.

So, when Playford College asked me to join their Book Week Celebrations I leapt at the chance and with Year 4 classes we read “The Gruffalo’s Child” and “Being Indy”.

You didn’t really think we’d get to the end of International Dog Day without Virgil featuring did you?

This International Dog Day, given Virgil occasionally likes to sample foods he probably shouldn’t, he thought it would be a good idea to create a checklist for hoomans to make sure the treats (or stolen foods) are safe for doggos.

We turned that idea into a magnet for him.

The Magnets are available in my Office if you’d like to pick one up or if you send me an email, we are happy to post one out to you.

And this weekend, for a special International Dog Day Community Catch-Up, Virgil and I will be at the Clonlea Reserve Dog Park with our friends from Wagalicious Dog Co. from 0930 on Saturday morning, if you’d like to say hello or share any views whilst letting your woofer have some fun.

Each week the Gawler delivers over five hundred meals throughout our community.

Earlier this week, on the morning shift, the volunteers at 3 Main North Road, put my kitchen skills to the test as we prepped and put together some of those five hundred meals.

Today, is National Meals on Wheels Day, a day recognizing the vital support, fresh meals, and social connection provided by volunteers to communities across Australia and South Australia.

I’d like to share my thanks to all the volunteers for the time and the difference you make to the lives of so many in our local community.

If you’d like to volunteer your time the team are looking for help in the Kitchen Tuesday through to Friday – with shifts usually taking four hours from ~0700 to 1100 and volunteer delivery drivers from ~1100 to 1300.
