Winter isn’t coming… it’s here !

So why not book yourself in for a Flu Vaccination at your GP, Pharmacist or Immunisation Provider.

I rolled my sleeve up (or down depending on your perspective) to get my flu shot.

It’s a quick and easy way to protect yourself, loved ones and our most vulnerable.

And, this year, for the first time in our State’s history, children aged 2-5 can now get their flu vaccination through a nasal spray.

Meet the Vincents !

They are set to benefit from Australia’s first neighborhood exclusively for first homebuyers buyers in our community - which is what Thursday’s State Budget will deliver !

The $50 million investment to help accelerate construction of 400 home in Australia delivering the first neighbourhood exclusively for first homebuyers in Munno Para.

This initiative will see first home owners like Brad and Courtney able to get a foothold on the property ladder and realise their dream of homeownership and it was fantastic to be able to announce the program with Premier Peter Malinauskas and Housing and Urban Development Minister Nick Champion MP earlier today.

It’s another part of the Government’s plan to tackle to the Housing crisis that has seen Stamp Duty removed for Down Sizers and First Home Buyers.

Words are the ultimate building block of human connection and reality.

They do more than describe a world, they actively shape it.

And festivals such as the Gawler & Adelaide Plains Festival of Words strive to exchange big ideas, bring authors together, transfer skills and showcase the stories and talents of our region.

It was a honour to officially launch this year’s festival program and I would encourage all budding authors, writers and wordsmiths to check out the program at festivalofwords.info

In my happy place !

For the last 14 years, I’ve had the privilege to pull on the Black Jersey.

Today, I did so for the 200th time, for a Club in Rugby Union South Australia I love, in the game “they play in heaven”.

Over that period - despite 944 points - aurugby
has given me more than I could ever give it !

I’ve made lifelong friends scattered across the globe with whom I share the bond of being a “Man of Uni”, relished turning off and the mental detox that training and games afford, woken up sore on Sunday mornings, learnt the importance of mate-ship, teamwork, never giving up in the face of adversity and the power of sport.

And with the Rugby World Cup in Australia next year and six games at Adelaide Oval, it would be rude to not go around for another season to try and get these last 56 points to break the 1000 point barrier!

Fifty-Six years ago today, the Hon Dr Bruce Eastick AM was elected as Member for Light.

He’d go on to serve our community with distinction for the next twenty-three years.

Last week, I had the opportunity to follow the Premier and Leader of the Opposition in paying my respects to Dr Eastick following his passing late last year.

You can watch my contribution to Dr Eastick’s condolence motion in the video taken from parliamentsouthaustralia.

Men's Sheds - such as the Willo's Men's Shed are a valuable assets to the community.

They bring men together, and provide a meaningful outlet and a safe place for men to go to seek support and mate-ship.

This morning the Malinauskas Government passed a significant milestone having invested more than $1.2 million in initiatives that strengthen community mental health and wellbeing such as Men's Sheds since 2022.

These funds recognize the vital role of connection, purpose and community in improving lives and breaking down social isolation.

If you need any proof that the Country Women’s Association was more than Jam and Scones (although they do that better than anyone) then you need to head down to Tod Street.

This morning I joined members of the SACWA Gawler Branch’s as we celebrated the “Our Dream Our Hall 86 Year” History Month Exhibition.

It showcases the history of the Gawler Branch – its first rooms on Reid Street, to their current home on Tod Street along with the contribution the CWA and its members have made to Gawler over the past 86 years.

When I visited Hillier Park Residential Village before the Election, I made a commitment to come back and host a Concessions Forum with residents.

Yesterday morning, with Minister Katrine Hildyard MP, we honored that commitment!

I thank every resident for taking their time to attend, for asking questions and enjoying a morning tea and the resident’s committee for facilitating the forum.

I look forward to many more events in the future.

Today is Public Education Day.

I’m a product of the public education system in the United Kingdom and have had the privilege to get to see the incredible work our public schools do for our community.

So today to everyone who makes public education work - the SSOs, educators, teachers or principals across our community - thank you for giving the next generation the gift of education!

Today marks the start of Reconciliation Week.

It’s also the 59th anniversary of the 1967 referendum that saw discriminatory clauses regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples removed from the Australian Constitution.

I headed down to Mark Oliphant College to join in the College’s Reconciliation Week celebrations (and join the judging panels for this year’s Deadly Door Competition)!

In keeping with this year’s theme, the students at Mark Oliphant College are “All In” and the celebration was a testament to our desire to walk together in reconciliation.
