Today, on National Sorry Day, we acknowledge the strength, survival, and resistance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples — especially members of the Stolen Generations, whose lives, families, cultures, and identities were deeply impacted by colonisation and forced removal policies.

As a q***r community organisation, ODYS also recognises the importance of identity, belonging, family, and the right to live safely and authentically. These are rights that were denied to First Nations peoples for generations and continue to be challenged today.

We stand in solidarity with First Nations LGBTQIASB+ communities, including Brotherboys, Sistergirls, and all q***r Blak mob whose leadership, storytelling, and care continue to shape stronger communities for all of us.

National Sorry Day is not only about reflection — it is a call to listen, learn, and take action toward truth-telling, justice, and healing. This year’s theme, From Sorry to Action, reminds us that acknowledgement must be matched with meaningful action — through advocacy, allyship, truth-telling, and ongoing commitment to justice for First Nations peoples and communities.

🚨 We’re growing at ODYS! 🚨
Do you want to make a real difference in the lives of LGBTQIASB+ young people across Queensland?

At ODYS (Open Doors Youth Service), we’re building safer, more affirming futures for young people aged 12–24 — and we’re looking for passionate, values-driven people to join our team. 💜

We’re currently recruiting for a range of new roles across our services and programs. If you’re community-minded, youth-centred, and passionate about creating spaces where young people feel safe, celebrated, and supported, we’d love to hear from you.

🌈 We’re proud to share that our very own Haydi from Open Doors Youth Service will be presenting at the Pride in Families Forum this June as part of Pride Month.
The Pride in Families Forum brings together family lawyers, mediators, DFV specialists, child protection practitioners, family support workers, legal professionals and community services for a day of networking, learning and practice development focused on LGBTQIASB+ experiences in family systems.
Haydi brings over a decade of experience supporting LGBTQIASB+ young people through crisis intervention, mental health, su***de prevention, alcohol and drug recovery, and domestic, family and sexual violence support. Her work is grounded in lived experience, early intervention and supporting young people to build healthier relationships with family and community.
Importantly, all presenters are members of the LGBTQIASB+ community and experts in their field, sharing both professional insight and lived experience of navigating these systems.
If you work in legal, family, DFV or community sectors, this is an important opportunity to deepen your understanding and strengthen affirming practice for LGBTQIASB+ people and families.

Art with impact 💜
For almost three years, Craig Graham—the artist behind Kind Hearts Cooran —has been quietly and consistently giving back to Open Doors Youth Service🌈
At Sunshine Coast Pride Fair Day, people were able to purchase his artwork by donating directly to Open Doors Youth Service… and in just one day, Craig helped raise almost $450. How incredible is that?! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈
This is what community looks like. Creativity, generosity, and showing up for young LGBTQIA+ people in such a real way.
If you’d like to check out Craig’s work, head to the link below and show some love 🎨
Kind Hearts Cooran
You can also catch him at Moreton Bay Pride, where he’ll be selling his artwork and continuing to raise funds for ODYS. Come say hi, support local, and be part of something meaningful ✨
