Breaks my heart that we have lost another precious little girl friend this week. Her parents Alina and Wayne would appreciate any donation in Aila’s memory.

On Wednesday 4 April baby Aila Hinton-Tooley went to sleep and woke up with the angels. She was only on this earth for 10 short weeks but she touched many lives in that time. I've created this page because Alina and Wayne's loss in so incomprehensible. I hope that by helping to raise funds for resea...

Stillbirth Stories. This is Eva's Story. Birthing a child we would never hear cry...beautiful but heart-wrenching. Eva is alive in what we do every day.

What a lovely idea

"Today I received my wedding gown back. I sent it off earlier this year to be made into angel gowns for babies that don't make it home from the hospital and I'll be donating them to the NICU at Vanderbilt. 17 little gowns were made from my dress and as beautiful as they are I pray they are never needed."

"Dear Dr,
It's been 6 and a half years since i staggered out of your office carrying the weight of an awful diagnosis for my newborn baby. You said our only answers were morphine and hospice and that the chances of seeing a first birthday were slim to none. We haven't been back to see you since. Today that baby graduated kindergarten and you were on my mind.
While the road hasn't been easy and she has in fact had more than her fair share of pain that has occasionally required morphine she is now not only surviving she is thriving.
This little girl who would "never reach any appropriate milestones" has progressed from smiling to laughing to non stop talking in the blink of an eye. She first rolled over, then crawled and now runs everywhere she goes. She has enamored an entire town and considers all who live here her personal fan club. She automatically assumes everyone loves her and rarely meets a stranger however if she does she is quick to say "Hi! Im Marley Bedford! Whats your name?"
She has an unbelievable amount of joy. It spills over into every interaction she has. She is perfection. Even in her misshapen bones and her eyes that are failing her she is perfection. If the rest of the world had the tiniest portion of her happiness and love for life it would be a totally changed place.
The day you shattered our world with your dire predictions you forgot to offer us the one thing that has carried us through time and time again. Through surgeries and uncertainties, through PICU stays and hundreds of hours of therapy, through triumphs and complete and total failures our saving grace has been hope. For everything you know about medicine and all the tools you have to fight disease you have forgotten that the most powerful tool of alI is hope.
I pray that the next time you have a patient with a life changing terminal diagnosis you will remember Marley and reassure that new family that no matter what the paperwork or diagnosis may say there is always hope.
Hope is not only everything sometimes it's the only thing."

"My dad has had two open heart surgeries, 18 stents, a pacemaker, deflator, artery disease, diabetic, massive stroke, too many to count mini heart attacks and has 10% heart function. He has been battling this for 12 years now. Kolbie had his first open heart surgery when he was 4 months old. He was born with a heart defect, pulmonary vein stenosos, pulmonary hypertension, premature lung disease, kidney disease and Down Syndrome. He is 10 months old and has spent 7 of those months in the hospital.

This past year has been extremely hard for our family because both have been in and out of the hospital and us not knowing if they would make it home. My dad just sits and holds kolbie for hours and they chat about their matching zippers! You can definitely see the love and bond these two miracle fighters have in this picture!

There is so much hate and violence in the world yet you have two people fighting to be here each day!! I will cherish this amazing picture the rest of my life!"

What a beautiful story!

Thank you to all the NICU nurses I know. You are angels on earth.

Thank you to all the NICU nurses I know. You are angels on earth.

I take care of babies born months too early to live without modern medicine…Placed on ventilators with central lines and life saving medications. I assess them, care for them, draw labs, start IVs, and give medications. I teach a new dad how to change his fragile baby’s diaper for the first time.

Especially painful during the month of March!!!!

It used to bother me more. The "how many do you have?" question. Sometimes it happens with both my earth children standing at my feet, as they reach for corn syrup laden sweets in the checkout line and the question pokes me out of the blue, smack dab in the middle of motherhood and coupons. Suddenly…
