Not Slowing Down ~ but using caution
Karana Scouts hopes everyone is staying safe with the recent weather. The water and storms can be dangerous. Please stay safe and reach out if you need help or assistance.

This week at Karana Scouts, our Joey Section (5 - 8 yrs) were climbing the walls. Staying high and dry, the Joey's hit the rock climbing centre. This time, just the Joey's. They were able to push more limits without the bigger kids cramping their style.

The Karana Cub Unit (8 - 11 yrs) were all about safety. Bike safety and maintenance. Covering the ABCs of bike safety, the Cubs can be safe on and off the track.

We were fortunate to receive a presentation on recycling by one of our Scouts. Who thought recycling could be so much fun.
Karana Scouts (11-14 yrs) spend the rest of the night learning how to work effectively in a team. We're teaching our future leaders how to be good communicators, have trust in each other and lead effectively. Don't forget were having fun along the way.

Everyone had a go with Karana Scouts this week. Mums and Dads included.

Our Joey section (5-8 years) started the night with down hill racing. The Billy carts are fast, but they can be handled. What goes down must be carried up.

The Karana Cubs (8-10 yrs) built bridges and structures from recycled materials. All questions being answered. Have you ever found a bear as big as a car on a bridge? Karana Cubs are ready.

Karana Scouts (11-15 yrs) continued with the speed. Getting in early, the youth decided to practise for next years soap box derby. We rounded the night off with team building challenges to help our communin.

Congratulations Karana Scouts !!!

Karana Scout group is super proud of the latest three cub scouts who earned their Peak Award. The Grey Wolf is the highest badge a cub ( 8-11 yrs ) can earn. After a lot of badges, an adventurous journey and a reflection (review of their journey), these youth members really did earn this award. Check the photos.

This week the Karana Joeys ( 5 - 8yrs ) enjoyed halloween craft before joining the cubs with celebrating the cubs achievements.

The cubs got down right spooky with their halloween inspired activities.

Karana scouts ( 11 - 13yrs ) put their minds into action with a youth lead compass activity. Bring on youth leading youth.

~ What a camp ~
Karana Scouts (11-14 years) joined our fellow groups from the Moreton Region at the Region Scout Camp [ MRSC24 ]
The youth members enjoyed competitive cooking, STEM, obstacle course, survival skills, and lots and lots of badge work. They were also able to participate in JOTA (a global communication event to introduce the kids to methods of communication)

Even the rain didn't stop us. It might have kept a few people in doors but the Karana Scout Group won't let the weather get in our way.
( Although we do change our program a bit )

Our Karana Joeys ( 5-7 years ) played indoor games and learnt new orienteering skills.
Karana Cubs ( 8-11 years ) are clearly planning for a hike soon. With their knowledge they will easily make it to their destination.
Karana Scouts ( 11-14 years ) have stepped up and lead by example, they were able to open parade and start their activity. It looks like they are building bridges, let's hope they never burn them.

The Karana Parents ( old, kidding not really ) as well as a representative from a neighbouring scout group learnt all about scouting history, the badge framework as well as how to support our youth.

Welcome Back from Karana Scouts

We all enjoyed our holidays; We are even more excited to meet up with our friends from the greater community. Scouts is a great way to diversify our friendship group and meet people from other schools and different parts of our community.

This first week pack for Term 4 2024 at Karana Scout group:
Karana Joey scouts (5-7 years) invested new members into the group, enjoyed a bush walk down the lions trail and played games with their friends.
The action was on in the Karana Cub unit (8-11 years). They also invested new members to the group as well as planned their term, and built paper towers. Check out the photos.

Our Karana Scouts (11-14 years) really stepped up with their programming for the term. I'm looking forward to the adventure; watch this space for action photos to come. The Scouts learnt a new knot (on night one) and practiced their pioneering skills.

Karana Scout Group is hosting an information evening for our community. We are spilling the beans on what it means to be in Scouting.

Karana Scout group invites Friends, Parents, Adults, Anyone - Members and non-Members ~ have your questions answered.
"What is involved?"; "What does my child do?"; "What do I do?"; "Can girls join scouting??" (Yes, they can);

Our experienced leaders will host a presentation style event, and we welcome questions from our guests.

Topics include: -
~ The Badge system - how to earn them - what they mean - which badges stay with a youth member for their whole journey.
~ The scouting journey - Peak awards, Camping, progression.
~ How to support your Scout - as a parent, family member, or part of the community. We are all shaping our youth to be successful.
~ How to help out - There is more to scouting than the youth and their leaders. The amazing people behind the scenes are critical to keeping the Group running.

Mini-Olympics at Karana Scouts

We started the week at Skillorama in Redcliffe with Joeys ( 5-8yrs ) and Cubs ( 9-11yrs ) showing off their competitive skills at the annual Scout activity.
I have been assured, no animals were harmed during the Show Jumping activity. The Ponies were watered and well rested between heats.

A Karana Cub has taken the final step towards her peak award after completing an Adventurous Journey. We hiked through Walkabout Creek at Enogerra Reserve, before going for a swim.

On Wednesday night Karana Joeys and Cubs continued the Olympic tradition with a few more competitive games.

As well as welcoming our newest members, investing youth in all three sections. It is always the right time to join your local Scout Group; get away from the screens, enjoy the out doors. Everyone welcome - call or text 0432 404 138.

Karana Scouts hit a wall this week.

In the best way ever!!!

Check out these young people doing amazing things. The Joey's (5-7yrs), Cubs (8-10 yrs) and Scouts (11-14yrs) all working together to support those who overcame their fears, and cheer for the natural climbers as we hit indoor climbing.

Also, a big thank you to the parents who helped out. Kids of all ages get the most out of scouting when their parents/guardians/carers get involved.
