Last day to see our exhibition at the Wollongong Art Gallery.
Visit to view 18 IAVA members art including the works by Mary Wingrave

Mary was born and bred in Wollongong. She studied at school here, at Teachers College, University and TAFE. She taught here, and worked here in both private business and government positions. One of the common threads throughout her life has been plants. Studying, growing and selling of plants, teaching about them, and using them as a focus through, drawing, printing, painting, ecoprinting, monoprinting and now in the cyanotype process. It was an easy decision to focus on plants for this exciting exhibition
“Winter Has Gone” where the emergence of plants epitomises the end of winter.

Only one day left to see our exhibition WINTER HAS GONE at Wollongong Art Gallery.

Rie Sato
Born in Japan and living in Australia since 1989, Rei’s practice weaves memory, migration, and imagination into lyrical, narrative landscapes. In recent years, her work has shifted toward a more whimsical visual language, where moonlit fields, wandering figures, and symbolic animals inhabit imagined terrains. These spaces are not literal places, but emotional topographies shaped by longing, resilience, and quiet wonder.
For “Winter has gone”, the works Dreamcatcher’s Artistry and Carrying the First Light explore transition - from darkness to illumination, from cold stillness to movement and hope. They speak to renewal: the fragile yet persistent light we carry forwards.art

Only 2 days left to visit our exhibition WINTER HAS GONE!
Lynne Johns feels a deep connection with the Illawarra. She moved permanently to Wollongong in 1984 to attend UOW where she completed a BCA (Distinction). Her works have always centered on landscape or interiors within the landscape. Since 2018, she has been preoccupied with
‘what remains’. Accumulation and waste is of concern which has seen her art practice slowly introduce materials destined for landfill. At the moment this is making itself present in the use of up-cycled materials to create vessel shaped forms. The challenge to reclaim and repurpose is becoming a stimulus for her work.

Today we feature the art of IAVA member Josephine Hill.
Josephine Hill is a contemporary Australian artist whose practice is grounded in a deep study of colour and its emotional resonance. Her carefully considered works explore subtle shifts in tone and forms, creating paintings that gently uplift and invite quiet reflection. In keeping with the exhibition “Winter has gone”, her works evoke renewal and the re-emergence of life — from the subtle colours emerging through the green of The Valley -Gentle Awakening to the intimate, soft pinks and the vibrant red of poppies in Dancing in the Fields. Together, these works express renewal through colour, offering moments of quiet vitality and reflection.
Make sure to visit the Wollongong Art Gallery before our exhibition WINTER HAS GONE finishes this Sunday 29th March.
