Meet Claudia, our new Land Management & Engagement Officer!
Claudia’s role is a bit of a hybrid. Her time will be split between hands-on fieldwork at the Parklands and working across our project sites throughout the catchment. Make sure to say hi, if you see her out in the field!
What inspired you to join DCMC?
Having the flexibility to work along the Darebin Creek Catchment and the Darebin Parklands, getting to connect with the community that spend time in the area.
What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
Getting to know a new area and the team that manage it.

Coffee and an Anzac
Is there a particular plant, animal or ecosystem you’re especially passionate about?
I love a Grassland ecosystem because of all the hidden beauties below the surface. You really have to slow down, get low and really take it in to find the gems.
Do you have a favourite native species?
River Red Gum, when you see a really old, gnarled tree it’s hard not to daydream about what the tree has seen.
What makes urban conservation so important?
It creates a space where people can slow down and connect this the landscape, especially in a place like Melbourne where people can feel disconnected from nature.
What is your favourite park of working in the field?
Spending time outside and making friends with the birds while you’re hand weeding.
What’s one fun fact people might not know about you?
I love cooking, I can rock up to (nearly) any kitchen and make a delicious meal out of whatever is in the fridge or cupboard.
