Exeter Lions Club Member Completes Sponsored Cycle Ride in Support of Neonatal Unit
Exeter Lions Club is celebrating the achievement of member Gary Blackmore, who completed a sponsored bike ride to help raise funds for this year’s club project in support of the Neonatal Baby Unit at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
The idea was first raised at a recent club meeting focused on fundraising for the project, when Gary volunteered to cycle from North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital — a journey of around 45 miles. What made the challenge even more remarkable was that Gary was not a regular cyclist and did not even own a bicycle when he made the commitment.
Gary has now completed the ride, tackling the route on one of the hottest days of the year. He was joined by his daughter and daughter-in-law, and together they completed the demanding journey to Exeter in an effort that Gary described as a real achievement.
So far, the sponsored ride has raised £555 for the neonatal unit, with the club proud of Gary’s determination and grateful for the support received. The fundraising effort reflects the community spirit of Exeter Lions Club and its ongoing commitment to supporting important local causes.
