What is Animating Spaces? Animating Spaces is a state-wide project that aims to revitalise places and spaces through community-led arts activities and events. Animating Spaces offers communities:
• The opportunity to decide on three arts activities and locations they will activate
• Funding and assistance to present workshops, exhibitions or performances. The five communities chosen for 2013: Eudl
o, Redlands, Toowoomba, Charters Towers and Harvey Bay. Have each undertaken three creative projects, reflecting their interests and aspirations; these will culminate in a night of events as part of a regional road map of arts and cultural activity. What is Eudlo Dreaming? Come and join Eudlo Cultural Collective and celebrate the launch of three Animating Spaces community arts projects under the stars. Experience Eudlo Dreaming, a free alfresco performing arts event starting at dusk by Eudlo’s majestic Ghost Gum Tree on Rosebed Street at 5:30pm on Saturday 7th September. This family-friendly, dusk event marks the official launch of live performing arts projects in the village – Dusk Mantra and Light Scape and the official unveiling of the heART Skatepark project. Rug up under the stars for a magical community experience and be treated to projection art, indigenous culture, sound scapes, live music, dance and song and explore the issues of community identity, cultural heritage in the heart of the Eudlo village. Dusk Mantra, directed by Louise King is a live musical performance featuring Lyndon Davis and Darren Blackman on didgeridoo, Louise Kennedy soprano soloist, Tunji Beier world percussion, Louise King cello, Anna Stoddard flute with the New World Rhythm Choir, Oriana Youth Choir, Eudlo and Chevallum School Choirs and the Eudlo Voices. The Seed - a delicate woven art piece by Rene Bahloo - a Eudlo based weavery artist will be displayed in the majestic Ghost Gum Tree as part of the launch event. Light Scape, directed by Linley Boyle is a contemporary music & movement dance piece with original Music by Khan Harrison and Carey Idle that combines movement featuring local children Creative Dance group with projection art created by master photographer Bonnie Jenkins. heART Skatepark, directed by Maya Carter-Malins, is a contemporary street art project engaging professional and aspiring artists to create a quality public art piece in the heart of Eudlo. The creation of the mural is aimed at young artists to gain a sense of ownership and pride in their community while building technical skills and confidence. After the performances Rosebed St Gallery will host A Pecha Kucha Night under the stars, a presentation style event whereby creatives share their work using a standard 20 slides x 20 seconds each format. PKN is an ongoing event run by The Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance - a non-profit association charged with promoting the development of creative industries on the Sunshine Coast.
15 free workshops have been planned over the coming months, for the public to catch the Animating Spaces bug and be involved with Eudlo Dreaming. The workshops are aimed to employ professional and emerging artists to engage the local and wider hinterland community; to create quality public art pieces and a performance in the heart of Eudlo.
