🌾🌾 Firebreaks: A Simple Step That Makes a Big Difference🌾 As bushfire season approaches, now is the time to make sure your property is prepared.
A firebreak is a cleared strip of land that helps slow the spread of fire and provides emergency services with safe access when they need it most.

It's one of the most effective ways we can all help reduce bushfire risk across our community.

If your property is larger than 2,000m², you'll need a firebreak that is at least 4 metres wide and 4 metres high to allow fire trucks to pass through safely.

âś… Every property is different, so check the Fire Hazard Reduction Notice for your property's requirements
âś… Complete your firebreaks before the 9 October
âś… If you can't meet the standard, apply for a variation before 24 September 2026

“DBCA Plan to conduct the below advertised burn on Friday the 31st of July timing to be confirmed on the day!”

An Awareness note from DBCA, regarding a planned prescribed burn in our patch. Near Canning Drive and Mississippi Bend.

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, Parks and Wildlife Service is responsible for the management of Western Australia’s State Forests, national parks and nature reserves. The department also undertakes fire mitigation works including prescribed burning on unallocated land and unmanaged reserves outside of gazetted townsites on behalf of the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.

The department uses planned fire to manage these natural environments in order to maintain the biological diversity of habitats and species richness, and to protect life, community assets, heritage values and natural resources from damage by bushfire.

Parks & Wildlife Esperance intends to conduct a prescribed burn in ESP_057 11 Mile Beach-Twilight Beach UCL (Cell A) within the next month as long as suitable conditions allows (please find attached map).

At different stages smoke may impact various roads within the area, Traffic Management will be in place as required.

Should you require more specific information or have any concerns about this planned burn by the Parks and Wildlife Service, please contact the Esperance District office.

NOTE: FINAL DECISION TO CONDUCT THE PRESCRIBE BURN WILL BE MADE ON SITE DAY OF BURN ANY CHANGES WILL BE COMMUNICATED ASAP.

🔥 Bushfire Advice - AVOID THE AREA - MYRUP and NERIDUP 🔥

Date of issue: 03:46 PM, 20 Apr 2026.

Please note this warning is now Bushfire Advice - Avoid the area.

⚠️ A Bushfire Advice is in place for people in the area of Dempster Road, Angove Road and Fisheries Road, west of Old Smokey Road in MYRUP and NERIDUP in the SHIRE OF ESPERANCE.

âš  The alert level for this fire has been downgraded as conditions have improved.

âš  There is no threat to lives or homes.

âť— WHAT TO DO âť—

- Continue to stay alert and monitor your surroundings.
- Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.
- Be aware of other potential dangers such as falling trees and damaged properties and infrastructure.
- Close all doors and windows and stay inside if smoke is causing you concern.
- Be ready if the situation escalates. Read through your plan. If you do not have a plan, make one now on Emergency WA emergency.wa.gov.au/plan or in the Emergency WA app.

If driving:
- Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.
- Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.
- If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears.
- If you have a respiratory condition and you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222.

🔥 BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR 🔥

- The fire is near the intersection of Fisheries Road and Old Smokey Road.
- The bushfire is moving in a westerly direction.
- It is not contained or controlled.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS 🚧

The following road is closed:
- Fisheries Road between Myrup Road and Tyrrell Road.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map, calling 138 138 or by contacting your Local Government Authority.
