BioAutism Ltd

BioAutism Ltd BioAutism Ltd is a Health Promotion Charity (HPC) with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. Therefore change and progress is much needed.

BioAutism Ltd is a health promotion charity, and the only not-for-profit charity in Australia specifically focused on raising funds for research into the causes of autism. We host fundraising events, the proceeds of which are used to support research projects examining the underlying genetics and biochemistry of autism. Understanding the causes will lead to earlier diagnosis and better treatments

than are currently available. Current Australian funding into autism research is extremely limited, and much of it is directed towards examining physical, social, and the psychological alterations following onset. In 2017, it is estimated that 3,000 babies will be born in Australia with autism, adding to the estimated 240,000 people already diagnosed. Help us create dialogue between researchers, health professionals, and families. Please like/ follow our page to view upcoming events and to find out how you can get involved. If you would like to know more, visit our website, where you can sign up for our newsletter on research updates and upcoming social events. Our next event is a movie night at the Palace Dendy cinema (check our events tab), with finger food, drink and a raffle. We warmly welcome volunteers. Please contact us if you would like to contribute your time. We are always happy to chat. Thanks for your interest :)

BioAutism is pleased to announce that it has awarded a small grant to Jonathon “Jay” Marinis – psychologist, PhD candidate (University of Melbourne & University of Sydney), and Trial Therapist with Orygen’s Substance Use Research Group.

Jay’s PhD project, a sub-study of the PAPAYA trial, explores how Autistic young people’s social motivation may shift when social anxiety is reduced through innovative, affirming therapies. By challenging deficit-based theories and applying a neurodiversity-affirming framework, Jay’s work aims to deepen understanding of Autism and contribute to more inclusive, evidence-based supports.

Beyond research, Jay founded The Topsoil Garden & The Scenic Hotel, a nature-based clinic blending horticultural therapy, hospitality training, and allied health services – reflecting their passion for mental health care grounded in ecological connection.

We’re excited to see how Jay’s research shapes the future of affirming interventions for Autistic young people. 🌿💡
