Dungog Commoners Landcare

Dungog Commoners Landcare We are a volunteer group caring for the habitats on Dungog Common through w**d removal, erosion control and revegetation.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands we work on and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and future.

Luckily we didn't get the big wet. Common Creek is flowing nicely and the country feels rejuvenated.

Cats claw coffin weaving workshop

May 16/17 is cats claw harvesting weekend at Munni. Lunch will be provided. We'll learn good landcare practises and care for the trees from which we are taking the vines.

Workshop June 13/14 is the workshop at Morpeth.

For those who decide to help harvest but not attend the workshop there will be a free workshop provided at a later date to create a lid/ bearer.

Zimmi Forest is from northern NSW. Sharon and I hope someone local may be interested in providing woven shroud bearers.

Warm regards

🌳When we checked out the impacts of the floods on the Ruins vegetation and lower parts of Girriwa today, there was good news. Our plantings are thriving, most vegetation is in tact and viney orange thorn thickets are attracting a variety of woodland bird species. Common Creek has been scoured out and the water is clear. A little human rubbish was brought in by the flood- we have removed what we found.

There is some creek bank erosion in certain places that will need monitoring 💦 Some large boulders and logs have been moved around in the creek-bed.

🌱We did find some fresh w**ds liking the wet conditions- removed a bit of Lantana and pulled up some small Cadajis and Large-leaved Privets. There is Crofton W**d, more Cadajis, Whiskey Grass, Salvia and Blackberry clumps to tackle over winter.

🧤Volunteers always welcome to come and join us! Get active whilst helping nature.
