As we reflect on a devastating weekend on our roads, this image is a reminder that every layer of motorcycle safety matters.

For riders, that starts with safe riding. Ride to the conditions, know your limits and don't push beyond them.

Wearing the right protective gear matters too. It's not just about comfort or appearance; it's another layer of protection when the unexpected happens.

For drivers, the need to look out for riders doesn't end with Motorcycle Awareness Month. Before turning, merging or entering an intersection, take that extra moment and make sure a rider isn't there.

Neighbourhood Watch Bellarine launched the Bellarine Safety Project yesterday. A three-part project aimed at businesses on the Bellarine.
1.Register their business’s after hours contact details with Bellarine Police
2. Register their CCTV cameras
3. Complete the How Safe Is My Business quiz to evaluate the security of business properties.
LS/C Tom Holmes spoke of the importance of the information around after hours contacts and CCTV cameras and how it assists police to investigate incidents on the Bellarine.
Brochures are available and will be delivered to businesses via business associations over coming weeks and our Neighbourhood Watch volunteers will also be out and about delivering same.
Once registered with police, businesses will be supplied with a window sticker stating their business is registered with police.
But it’s not just businesses who can register their CCTV cameras. Residents are also urged to register their cameras – simply list your address and contact details and forward to Bellarine Police. See Action 3.

A successful Don’t Take The Bait scams presentation held yesterday at SpringDale Neighbourhood Centre with 40 in attendance to hear from Bellarine Police members Kevin and Tom, Zara from Bendigo Bank Ocean Grove and Leonie who presented on behalf of Crimestoppers Vic.
Being aware of scams, how scammers operate and what to do when you have been scammed formed part of the presentations. So many scams to be mindful of – Romance scams, Investment scams, Toll Account scams, ATO scams, Parking Fines scams – the list goes on. Be vigilant and STOP and THINK – is this a Scam.
The important messaging for us all from yesterday was to remember the steps to take if you think you have been scammed.
1. Call your bank as soon as possible.
2. Call Police
3. Report to Scamwatch
4. Report to Crimestoppers
And the most important message of all: DON’T BE EMBARRASED. DON’T BE SILENT.
Our thanks to SpringDale Neighbourhood Centre for hosting the event – a collaboration between Neighbourhood Watch Bellarine and Bellarine Community Support Register thanks to the support of Benefit Geelong and City of Greater Geelong.
Neighbourhood Watch Bellarine also launched the Bellarine Safety Project yesterday. A three part project aimed at businesses on the Bellarine. More details in following post.
