Grace's Place

Grace's Place Grace's Place is a world-first residential trauma recovery centre for children affected by homicide. Their lives are changed forever.

An initiative of the Homicide Victims Support Group (Aust) Ltd. Grace's Place is a world first trauma recovery centre for children and young adults that have been affected by homicide. Grace’s Place provides support in a safe place where children, teenagers and their families grieving the death of someone they love through homicide, can share their experiences, receive counselling, be involved in

therapeutic programs and learn life skills on how to survive the trauma without their loved one. Our Counsellors are experienced at working with younger members of the group and can provide support and counselling in our office, in your home or at school by prior arrangement. There are limited services and facilities available to assist children with their trauma, healing and recovery after a homicide. By having this specifically focussed facility we will be able to provide many services now lacking to the younger members of the HVSG. Children are often the unseen, unheard victims of these homicides. Grace's Place is named in honour of Grace Lynch, the mother of Anita Cobby and was one of the founding members of the HVSG. Grace was a gentle, caring woman who shared her life and loss with so many, becoming a mother to so many. Grace's Place is the beacon of hope where our young members can heal and survive.

Today we honour all mums and mother figures.
Those who nurture, protect, guide and love with everything they have.

Thank you for all you do.

At Grace's Place, we also hold close the children and young people for whom Mother’s Day feels different.
Those missing their mum. Those carrying grief, confusion or heartache. Those learning to navigate life after profound loss.

Today can be filled with love and memories, but also sadness and longing.
However this day feels, every emotion is valid.

To every child remembering their mum today, and to every family walking beside them, we are thinking of you. And we're here if you need us.

Yesterday the NSW Opposition lodged amendments to dilute the Minn’s Government (Good Character at Sentencing) Bill 2026 Reforms which would see the “good character” references often put forward when a killer is sentenced, removed.

Homicide Victims' Support Group (Aust) Ltd (HVSG) have long lobbied for this important reform which is designed to strengthen the protection of victims and see appropriate penalties for the perpetrator.

The Opposition want this limited to sexual offences only, meaning that in the instance of a homicide, the killer would still be able to place advocates on the stand to provide testimonials of support for the killer’s “good character”. And allow the courts the discretion to consider this testimony a mitigating factor when sentencing.

As Martha Jabour, CEO of HVSG said : "Homicide leaves families with a life sentence of grief. The justice system must not dilute accountability through subjective praise of the perpetrator.

When courts give weight to personal endorsements they risk sidelining the voices that matter most – those of the victims."

The Crimes (Sentencing Procedure) Amendment (Good Character at Sentencing) Bill 2026 must be passed with no amendments.

In 1955 in Japan, in response to the devastation of WWII, Madahisa Goi created the concept of Peace Poles.

Each pole features the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” and are a non-denominational symbol to foster global harmony.

Joining the estimated 250,000 around the world, we are proud to now have our own Peace Pole at Grace’s Place through the generosity of Blacktown Rotary Club.

We are so proud of you Abby-Lee Honeysett. Thank you for your continued support of Grace's Place and for sharing your art with us.

Meet Abby-Lee Honeysett, a proud Wiradjuri woman and Forensic Mortuary Technician at NSW Health Pathology’s Forensic Medicine service in Lidcombe.

After witnessing the heartbreak of losing loved ones to homicide, Abby-Lee changed careers to support families navigating the coronial system, drawing strength from her own experiences.

Now in her second year in the role, Abby-Lee balances the emotional demands of forensic work with her passion for painting.

Her art is deeply personal, helping her reconnect with culture, process trauma, and honour those affected by loss.

One of her artworks, Healing Together, now hangs in the foyer of Grace’s Place, a world-first trauma recovery centre for children and families impacted by homicide. The artwork symbolises resilience, connection, and the non-linear journey of healing.

“I wanted to give back,” Abby-Lee says. “Art helps me ground myself, and it’s become a way to support others too.”

Her latest piece, Birrang (Journey), reflects the knowledge and relationships built by forensic pathologists. Through her work and her art, Abby-Lee continues to advocate for families and celebrate the strength of community.
