Fire and landscape restoration in action 🤝🔥

We’re using fire to promote germination this !

Our team recently conducted some cool burns on Ediegarrup Reserve in southwest WA, to encourage the germination of the beautiful native Proteaceae plants. 🌱

Now that’s a cool use of a cool burn 🙌🧡

Wanarra is the missing link, now we need your help! 🧩

For years, we have worked with partners and Traditional Custodians to secure a network of conservation land in the mid-west of WA. By adjoining our Charles Darwin Reserve, Wanarra (107,000 hectares) does more than just add space; it creates a contiguous 175,000-hectare block of protected Country.

This is the scale nature needs. In a fragmented landscape, this acquisition contributes to a massive, one million hectare web of protected land. It provides the room species need to move, ecosystems the space to function, and nature the flexibility to adapt to a changing climate.

Our goal is to raise $4.6 million by 30 June to purchase and protect this property and others just like it in our reserve network. Your donation will be doubled up to $3.8 million.

Splitting a house in three is no easy feat! 🏡

Transporting the structures along 500kms of remote country roads is even more challenging.

After years of planning, we recently moved this house from Dubbo to our Naree Reserve in north-west NSW. 💪

Our reserve staff are stoked to now have fit-for-purpose accommodation to help them deliver their vital conservation work on-site.

Excitement levels 📈🤩

We just learned that a very generous donor has been so inspired by the response so far to our campaign that they have pledged another $400,000 in matched giving to help us reach our goal by 30 June! 🎉

IYCMI: For years, we’ve dreamed of protecting Wanarra and now we have the chance to make it happen.

🌳 Wanarra is 107,000 hectares of intact bushland right next to our Charles Darwin Reserve.

🌼 Think endangered woodlands blanketed in wildflowers, waterbirds flocking to vast salt lakes.

🤝 Managed together, these reserves would strengthen a growing network of one million hectares of conservation land in one of Australia’s most biodiverse regions.

You can be part of the legacy that ensures it is cared for long-term.

We are currently working toward a rare opportunity to purchase and protect Wanarra. Our goal is to raise $4.6 million and right now, matched giving has been extended, so every donation by 30 June will be doubled until we reach $3.8 million.

Join us in making an incredible impact for nature, link in comments to donate. 👇

Come late July through September, the mid-west of Western Australia comes alive with a kaleidoscopic burst of native wildflowers. 🌼🌻🌺

Enthusiasts flock from all over the world to witness it, bees lap it up while they can, and nectar-loving birds feast like there’s no tomorrow. Most famously, carpets of pink and white everlastings dominate the landscape, and for a few short months, humans gracefully skip across technicolour meadows.

Wanarra, adjoining our Charles Darwin Reserve, is one of the places where this otherworldly display takes hold, and transforms the landscape.

We are currently working towards a rare opportunity to purchase and protect Wanarra and other places like it. Our goal is to raise $4.6 million by June 30. Donate now via the link in comments and your donation will be doubled thanks to a few generous donors, up to $1.5 million!

Who am I? 🤔

I’m shy. I enjoy living out of range, in remote arid and semi-arid regions. I have relatively short wings. I’m extremely good at hopping. I’m also good at camouflage, my plumage – brown and streaky – lets me blend into my mostly tussocky and shrubby habitat. I like to forage various seeds, fruits, insects, and other invertebrates on the ground. You could say I’m the golden snitch for anyone who likes to twitch.

Tell us your best guess in the comments, where you can also find a link to the answer and learn more about the species. 👇

On , we’re reminded that biodiversity is one of our strongest natural defences against climate change. 🌏🌱

The healthier, more connected and more resilient our ecosystems are, the more effective they are at storing store carbon, adapting to climate pressures and sustaining the complex webs of life found across our planet.

Did you know that back in 2020 the World Economic Forum estimated that more than half of the world’s GDP is dependent on nature?

That’s just one of many reasons why protecting biodiversity at scale matters. 🌳

Our continent has some of the oldest and most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. Across Australia, we protect and contribute to the management of over 22 million hectares of land and support thousands native species which have been recorded on our reserves to date.

Because when we give nature the chance to thrive, it can – 35 years of Bush Heritage is a testament to this. And that’s something worth holding onto this World Environment Day. 💚
