💛 What a wonderful two weeks it's been for the Yellow Chair Project.

After our Loss & Grief workshop with CORES Australia we spent a beautiful Friday at the Pocket Park, where people were actually waiting for a seat in the Yellow Chair. Seeing people willing to pause, connect, and share their stories filled us with gratitude and excitement.

Then came Saturday's market, where so many people stopped by to sit, listen, share, and connect. We witnessed heartfelt conversations, meaningful moments, and the simple magic that happens when people take a moment to truly be with one another.

And this week? Well... the weather certainly had its own plans! 🌧️ Despite the rain, we kept showing up with our chairs, our smiles, and our willingness to connect. Along the way, there was plenty of laughter and a few wonderfully human moments.

At one point, while packing up the chairs, one of us confidently walked up to a car, opened the door... and quickly realised it wasn't her car at all! 😂 Thankfully, everyone involved could laugh about it.

It was a lovely reminder that being present doesn't mean being perfect. Sometimes it simply means showing up as we are, embracing our humanity, and sharing a laugh together.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped for a chat, took a seat, shared a story, or simply smiled as they walked by. You continue to show us the value of creating spaces for connection in our community.

Today the crew from the YSC Project, Catherine, Melissa and Suz, attended the CORES Grief and Loss workshop at the wonderful Health Centre.

Here are some of their reflections from the experience:

Melissa:
Today I learned that grief is about so much more than death. It can be the loss of a relationship, a dream, a future we imagined, or a part of ourselves.

This training gave me a glimpse of a door connected to the loss of my father when I was 12 years old. I haven't opened that door yet, but for the first time, I can see it. Part of me wants to look away, and part of me is curious about what is waiting there.

One of my biggest takeaways is that supporting someone through grief is not about fixing their pain or finding the right words. Sometimes it's simply about being with them and allowing their experience to be seen.

For that, I am deeply grateful.

Catherine:
At the Grief and Loss workshop, I learned that there are many losses we can encounter in life and that they each bring their own unique grief experience. I also learned that one major loss can lead to secondary losses which can often compound the grief we are feeling.

The training legitimised grief I have felt in the past and made me realise that how I felt then was perfectly normal.

It also reinforced for me the importance of walking beside someone experiencing grief without the need to fix or change their experience.

It was a very enriching experience being able to connect with others while exploring such an impactful topic.
What unfolded was a rich and heartfelt exploration of the many forms of loss we experience throughout life, and the grief that can accompany them.

Suz:
Through the guided exercises and conversations, I uncovered something I'd never quite seen before: how the early loss of a special aunt, who's death had been hidden from me, may have had me withdraw from people and never fully allow myself to be as open again afterwards.

I left appreciating both the quality of the workshop and the value of having spaces where we can safely explore what it means to be human, and in doing so, become a space for others to be themselves.

A huge thank you to Rod and Charlie for their generous facilitation, and to Deloraine & Districts Community Bendigo Bank for being amazingly supportive of programs like this in our community.

The more workshops I attend through CORES and the Kentish Regional Clinic, as a YSC supporter, the more I appreciate the contribution they make to our region, our communities.

If you're interested in understanding yourself and others more deeply, I encourage you to explore their upcoming offerings.
