The Story of Baden-Powell and the Butterfly Maps 🦋🗺️
During the Siege of Mafeking in South Africa (1899–1900), Robert Baden-Powell was defending the town against a much larger enemy force.
Baden-Powell needed to gather information about the enemy's positions and movements. However, sending obvious military maps or messages could be dangerous if they were captured.

Baden-Powell was known for being creative and using observation and intelligence skills. He used drawings and codes to disguise military information.
One famous story associated with him tells how maps and military information could be hidden inside innocent-looking drawings of butterflies. To someone casually looking at the picture, it appeared to be simply a nature illustration. But someone who understood the code could identify important information hidden within the markings and patterns.
