We are deeply alarmed by the reports that there is an imminent threat to Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya’s life as a result of torture and other ill treatment he has been suffering while in Israeli custody.

Since 2021, Uncle Pabai and Uncle Paul have been fighting in court, arguing that the Australian Government has breached a duty of care to protect the Torres Strait Islands from harm caused by climate change.

This would transform climate law in Australia.

Uncle Pabai says: “We could have less than 30 years before we lose our islands, our homes, our connection to everything.”

Uncle Paul says: “We’ve decided we’re going to continue this fight because we don’t have a choice. We have to keep fighting.”

Uncle Pabai and Uncle Paul are fighting to hold the Government accountable for the harm climate change is causing to the Torres Strait.
