Insect repellent 🦟
Torch or headtorch 🔦 (just in case for when it gets dark)

Hey 👋

I’m Peaches 🍑

I lost my mum during the Katherine floods 💔

I was found because I fell out of the tree 🌳 I was in and landed on an SES volunteer🦸‍♀️.

❤️‍🩹 Lucky me 🍀

The wonderful team at the SES got me to the safety of dedicated wildlife carer Tabitha🥰.

UPDATE: WE FOUND THEM 😇😇 at Pine Creek 🥳🎉

🦇👀🕵️‍♂️WE NEED YOUR HELP
TERRITORIANS🕵️👀🦇

🕵️Think Where's Wally but with Flying foxes🦇📍

The Little red flying-foxes are on the move again 🦇and we can't find them🔍.

🌳We have some Little reds in care who are getting ready for release and we are looking for a colony for them to join 🌳

Both colony’s at Katherine Gorge and Giles St Katherine have moved on.

👀🦇Have you seen any Little red flying-foxes around??

Please let us know! 😃😃

Trees often look like this⬇️ ⬇️⬇️with Little reds.

There are still lots of Black flying-foxes around. We are specifically looking for Little red flying-foxes (Pteropus scapulatus).

In other non-Bat news meet Curly, the Curlew. Curly was found in quite the pickle, all wrapped up in some sort of plastic netting.

Curly’s friend paced nearby distressed trying to help. That’s when the humans came to the rescue, Curly was carefully un-wrapped and Vet checked.

Much to our surprise Curly was up and standing by the end of the day, phew! Curly had some significant bruising and stayed in care resting and recovering for a week or so.

Afterwards Curly was returned to reunite with the other Curlew.

If you’ve got time to pick up some rubbish lying around this weekend the wildlife would greatly appreciate it , and us , we get a lot of entanglement rescues.

🦇 International Bat Appreciation Day 🦇

Today we celebrate one of the most misunderstood and one of the most important keystone species in our ecosystem 💚

Here’s just a few reasons why bats deserve our respect and protection:

• 🦇 Natural pest control – one bat can eat thousands of insects in a single night 🌙 keeping mozzies and crop pests down (less chemicals needed 🙌)

• 🌸 Pollinators of the night – bats pollinate native plants and trees, helping forests regenerate and thrive 🌿

• 🌱 Seed spreaders – flying foxes disperse seeds over huge distances, restoring habitats after fires and land clearing 🔥➡️🌳

• 💰 Huge economic value – by protecting crops and reducing pests, bats save farmers millions every year 🚜

• 🌏 Vital for healthy ecosystems – no bats = unbalanced ecosystems. They’re a key piece of the puzzle 🧩

They’re frontline environmental workers 💪
Protect bats. Protect our future. 🦇💚

🦇UPDATE 🦇UPDATE 🦇UPDATE 🦇

Firstly, how amazing is Laura 🥰😇

We are getting there… 🐌

The calls are slowing down now and the ophaned Black flying foxes in care are gaining weight📈✅🤗.

🛟We are incredibly grateful for our specialist care lifeline for getting on a plane ✈️ and coming to help 🛟

🙏 Anja, Kerrie and Hannah from Bats QLD and Rebecca and Alicia from Bat Conservation & Rescue QLD - and Ofcouse Laura’s mum who has also flown over to join the chaos.

Thankyou to Rob and the team at ifaw for your continued support.

Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts. We couldn’t have done this without you.

Laura is back at work and we have had 5 days at Tindal without rescues and minimal rescues between Katherine and Pine Creek.

John and the Wildlife Operations Team at Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife have been very busy collecting deceased Flying foxes to ensure public safety. Great work John!!

For ophaned and injured wildlife please do not hesitate to call us!
