Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
An important opportunity to come together and stand against the abuse, mistreatment and neglect of older people.
We all have a role to play in raising awareness about and preventing elder abuse.
So, what is elder abuse? We define elder abuse as any act by a trusted person or a family memberwhich causes harm to an older person.
The different types of elder abuse can include:
◼emotional and psychological abuse
◼financial abuse
◼neglect
◼social abuse
◼physical abuse
◼sexual abuse.
If you know or suspect on older person is being abused – do not ignore the signs and speak up, by making a report to police. Any information provided is crucial to help stop those causing abuse to older people.
