Men’s sheds have received the same amount of funding since 2012 but our network has tripled in size. Men’s sheds are underfunded and under-resourced.

Men’s sheds are calling for an increase in State Government funding from $1m to $3m per annum from 2027/28 with ongoing indexation.

πŸ‘ Congratulations to VMSA Board Member Graeme Newman!

A big congratulations to Graeme Newman, VMSA Board Member, President and member of Diamond Creek Mens Shed, who was nominated for Volunteer of the Year at the Nillumbik Community Awards.

Graeme was one of 10 nominees recognised for their contribution to the local community. A fantastic acknowledgement of the time, energy and commitment he gives to supporting others.

While Graeme didn’t take home the award on the night, being nominated alongside so many dedicated volunteers is an achievement worth celebrating.

Congratulations Graeme, and thank you for everything you contribute to Diamond Creek Men’s Shed, VMSA and the wider community. πŸ‘

What a day in Heywood! πŸ‘

Our VMSA South-West Regional Roadshow brought together shedders from Heywood Men's Shed, Port Fairy Men's Shed, Cavendish Mens Shed, Hamilton Men's Shed, Camperdown Men's Shed, Warrnambool Men's Shed, Koroit Men's Shed, Terang Men's Shed, Nelson Men's Shed, Port Mac Donnell Men's Shed and Casterton Men's Shed for a fantastic day of connection, conversation and sharing ideas.

A huge thank you to everyone who made the trip and to our speakers and supporters, including Karen Stephens from Glenelg Shire Council, Ambulance Victoria, Leigh Parker from Heywood Rural Health, Total Dust Extraction and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

The Heywood Lions Club got the day off to a great start with a bacon and egg breakfast, while local entertainer Jeff Mizzi kept everyone entertained after lunch.

We also celebrated some of the fantastic work happening across the region with the VMSA South-West Shed Community Awards, proudly sponsored by Bonney Energy Victoria. Congratulations to Cavendish Mens Shed and Camperdown Men's Shed on being recognised for their contribution to their communities and the wider Men’s Shed network. πŸ‘

A special thank you to Sandra, Terry and Warren from Heywood Men's Shed for working with VMSA to help organise the day.

Thanks to everyone who came along and made the Heywood Roadshow such a great day!

This September, the Creswick Men's Friendship Shed celebrates 25 years of service to the local community! Established in 2001, the Shed has been a place where community members can connect, share skills and meet new people.

Over the past quarter century, members have worked on countless projects, from woodworking and metalwork to projects that have benefited community groups and public spaces throughout the Hepburn Shire. The Shed has welcomed generations of local men and women through its doors, creating a place where skills are passed on, stories are shared and friendships are formed.

As the Shed celebrates this milestone, it acknowledges the many members, volunteers and supporters who have played a part in its story over the past 25 years and helped make it the valued community space it is today.

Congratulations to everyone at Creswick Men's Friendship Shed on this wonderful achievement! πŸ‘

The shedders at Camperdown Men's Shed have been busy getting ready for the Camperdown Show, putting together an impressive collection of beautifully hand-crafted work, each piece made with real skill, care and plenty of hours in the shed.

All items will be available for sale, a great way to raise money for the shed while showcasing some outstanding craftsmanship. If you're heading along to the show, be sure to stop by and check out what the team have created!

🏌️ Teeing Up Support for Bellarine Men's Sheds

Great news for Clifton Springs Community Mens Shed and St Leonards Men's Shed, both recently receiving $1,700 grants from the Portarlington Golf Club's Community Contribution Fund to go towards much-needed workshop equipment.

These sheds are more than just a workshop, they're a place for men across the Bellarine to connect, share skills, and support one another, including a good number of shedders who've lost their partners and are looking for somewhere to belong.

A big thank you to Portarlington Golf Club for their ongoing support of men's sheds in the community! πŸ‘

Great to see the team at Wyndham Vale Mens shed gathering around their Help Us Build a Future corflute sign to show their support! πŸ™Œ

The campaign is calling on the Victorian Government to increase funding for Men's Sheds from $1 million to $3 million from 2026/27, because sheds like Wyndham Vale give men across our state a place to connect, learn new skills, and support their mental health and wellbeing.

Peter Gibbons, Secretary, Wyndham Vale Men's Shed Inc., shared why the campaign matters to them:

"As a developing Men's Shed, it is sometimes difficult to self-fund large equipment or shed extensions. To that end, we look towards the Victorian Men's Shed Association for assistance. With close to 300 Men's Sheds in Victoria and one of the fastest growing men's health movements in Australia, State and Federal Government support is much appreciated. However, the support provided by State and Federal Governments is not being adjusted to the increasing cost of providing accommodation and facilities for the growing membership of our sheds.

It is for this reason that we fully support the Victorian Men's Shed Association in its efforts to increase funding from the Victorian Government. The value of Men's Sheds to the communities around them is immense and far outweighs the investments made."

Well done to everyone at Wyndham Vale Men's Shed for helping spread the word! πŸ‘
