On the 11th November 2026 Currumbin Palm Beach RSL Sub Branch will hold a Remembrance Day service in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and conflicts.

Honouring War Widows Day 2026

Today, 19 October, we recognise War Widows Day and acknowledge the strength, resilience and sacrifice of those who have lost loved ones through military service.

This year marks the 79th anniversary of the Australian War Widows organisation, with 80 years to be celebrated in 2027.

Today, members of our War Widows group travelled to Brisbane to attend a special Field of Remembrance church service, with Debbie Baczyk taking on the role of MC.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all war widows for their courage, contribution and the important role they continue to play within our veteran community.

On Sunday, we held our inaugural Afghanistan Veterans Day commemoration service ❤️

The service was a chance to recognise and honour Australians who served in Afghanistan, remember the 41 Australians who lost their lives, and acknowledge the families who supported them throughout their service.

Afterwards, veterans and their families gathered for a casual lunch by the creek. Some caught up with old mates, some met others who served, some shared stories, and others simply enjoyed the afternoon with family.

Thank you to everyone who came along to honour and remember.

This year marks 25 years since Australian Defence Force personnel first deployed to Afghanistan.

In response to the 2001 September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States, Australia commenced military operations in Afghanistan, contributing to a multinational mission that would span two decades.

Between 2001 and 2021, more than 35,000 Australian Defence Force personnel served in Afghanistan and the broader Middle East Area of Operations in relation to Afghanistan. The Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour records 47 Australians who lost their lives as a result of their service, with some 263 wounded.

In the lead up to the 25th anniversary, RSL Queensland recognises and honours the courage, commitment and sacrifice of all Navy, Army, Air Force personnel who served in Afghanistan.

Join us for our inaugural Afghanistan Veterans Day commemorations on Sunday 11th October.

There will be a brief, meaningful service to recognise and honour Australians who served in Afghanistan, remember the 41 Australians who lost their lives, and acknowledge the families who supported them throughout their service.

Following the commemorative event, the day will transition into a casual lunch by the creek, giving Afghanistan Veterans and their families an opportunity to reconnect, share a meal and simply spend time together.

The intention is simple: come as you are, reconnect with those who understand and enjoy an afternoon built around mateship.

10am Arrival & Gathering
11am - Semi Formal Service at Currumbin RSL Cenotaph
12pm - Casual Lunch on the deck with pizza's and finger food.
