The United Nations has declared 2025 the second International Year of Cooperatives.

Australia’s apex body for co-operatives and mutuals and national secretariat for IYC 2025, the BCCM, has launched a national campaign to provide all Australian co-operatives with a free, national platform to raise our collective voice and shine a light on our contribution to our members and the wider community. Take a look.

THE POO PALACE – aka the compost toilet that doesn't need emptying

In the latest issue of Permaculture magazine, PM's Maddy Harland explains why a 'tree bog', a compost toilet that uses hungry plants to soak up human nutrients, is a great option. She also shares how she and husband Tim, built their very own on the edge of the Devonshire woodland, using as many upcycled materials as possible, including the beautiful windows pictured here.

A tree bog works like a normal compost toilet – sawdust is added with each visit to create the right conditions for decomposition, and the rest of the work is done by hungry trees and plants, such as willow or comfrey, planted around the toilet.

Artists are encouraged to submit their expression of interest (EOI) to exhibit at Sculpture in the Gaol. There is also an opportunity for artists to facilitate workshops on the opening weekend of the exhibition. The sculpture exhibition consistently attracts high-calibre entries from the region and across the country. It provides a rare opportunity for artists in Australia to exhibit larger scale sculptures.
