🎨🌽🐦 Calling all young creators! 🐦🌽🎨

Come along and get creative for the Junior Pavilion at the Coonamble Show!

Join CWA for a fun morning of crafting and creating entries for this year’s show schedule. Children can decorate a biscuit, unleash their imagination on a potato, or create an animal or bird from fruit and vegetables.

✨ Feel free to BYO fruit, vegetables, or any decorative items your child would especially like to incorporate - however, we will supply everything needed to complete an entry.

🌸🍰 If children would also like to work on other entries for the Junior Flower or Cooking schedules, they are very welcome to bring those along as well.

📍 CWA Hall
📅 Sunday 24th
⏰ 10am – 12pm

Gold coin donation to help cover entry costs. Entry forms supplied on the day.

We’d love to see lots of local children getting involved in the show and having fun creating something special! 💙💛

Bakers of Coonamble… start your ovens!

Dust off those favourite recipes, stock up on butter and flour, and get ready to impress!

To celebrate the CWA Coonamble Evening Branch’s 25th Birthday, we’re donating a special $250 prize for the cookery exhibit declared “Best in Show” by the judge on the day.

And here’s the exciting part… it could be absolutely anything.

A perfectly light scone.
An unforgettable ANZAC biscuit.
A flawless sponge.
Or a beautifully crafted ASC fruit cake that stops the judge in her tracks.

This year, we want to make choosing the winner nearly impossible, so let’s fill the pavilion with the very best baking Coonamble has to offer!

All fresh cookery entries to be presented at the pavilion before 10am on Tuesday 26th May.

Get into it!!

We had an amazing morning with amazing people at our Annual ANZAC Morning Tea.

A huge thank you to all our wonderful members who cooked, cleaned, prepared food, and helped make the morning such a success. We also extend our thanks to those who contributed to the morning tea but were unable to attend on the day — your support is very much appreciated.

Following such a well-attended and moving commemoration service, it was lovely to see so many people come together at the hall to share a sandwich, a cuppa, and something sweet while enjoying each other’s company.

Thank you also to everyone who attended and for the generous donations received throughout the morning. It truly was a wonderful community gathering.

Anzac biscuits… who cares if they are crisp or chewy? They’re easy to make and yummy, and connect us with history!

Anzac biscuits… who cares if they are crisp or chewy? They’re easy to make and yummy, and connect us with history!

We're once again sharing one of our favourite Anzac biscuit recipe (from the CWA Cook Book).

**CWA of NSW Anzac Biscuit Recipe**
150g (1 cup) plain flour
220g (1 cup) sugar
100g (1 cup) rolled oats
90g (1 cup) desiccated coconut
125g butter
1 tablespoon golden syrup
2 tablespoons boiling water
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C and lightly grease two baking trays.

Combine the flour in a bowl with the sugar, rolled oats and coconut. Melt the butter in a saucepan with the golden syrup over medium heat. Combine the boiling water with the bicarbonate of soda and stir to dissolve.

Add to the butter mixture and mix well, then stir into the dry ingredients until thoroughly combined.

Drop teaspoons of the mixture onto the trays, allowing room for spreading.

Bake for 10 minutes, or until golden brown.

Allow to cool on the tray for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Note: They're more on the crunchy side but it depends how long you bake them for. We've heard half the sugar works just as well but haven't tested it.

We're proud of our baking history but there's more to CWA than biscuits. Find out more: https://www.cwaofnsw.org.au/Web/Web/About/About-us.aspx

Three carloads of intrepid members and friends of Coonamble Evening Branch chose the hottest day of the year to trek to Carinda, home of the famous pub where David Bowie filmed for “Let’s Dance,” for our Christmas party. The pub is now owned by the amazing Maz (mazlifestyle for Instagram followers) and her family. A year after Carinda was practically blown away, it’s encouraging to see determination and rebuilding taking place. Country hospitality at its finest, it was a lovely way to finish a busy and successful year for us.
