Research released today shows that a significant number of West Australians are experiencing continuing deterioration and widening of poverty and hardship in our community.

The cost-of-living pressures are simply crushing people and as a direct consequence, the physical and mental health of our communities is being tested far beyond a reasonable level of resilience. "There is a cost of the economics that no doubt we are all experiencing but there is a severe cost to those with the least.

When we hear this research, what is our response? We continue to be confronted with the question 'Are we OK with this?' Our view is that we should never feel comfortable and accept this as someone's present and future and so as a state and as a country, we need to be doing more to protect those most vulnerable."

Warren Palmer - State External Communications Manager

Have a read our Op-Ed in the West Australian today from Major Darrell Wilson, State leader of The Salvation Army.

It’s a pleasure to work alongside the Rev Shed at South Coast Baptist College who work on vehicles to give away to someone in need of a car. Today we had the pleasure of working alongside Liliah Haven to share a vehicle that will support someone in need of transport.
Thank you to the Rev Shed team for doing a great job at fixing up this Holden Astra!
If you or anyone you know has an old car that could be donated to the Rev Shed please let us know so we can have a greater impact for the community!

This week especially, as we celebrate National Volunteer week, we want to shout one big THANK YOU to all of our volunteers for all that they give to our Centre, and serving our community.

Rockingham Salvos wouldn’t be able to have the impact in the community that we have without our wonderful vollies … both past and present!

From sweeping the floors, cleaning toilets, collecting food picks, sorting donations, greeting our community as they come through the door, serving and prepping food, op-shop sorting and everything in between … we have a whole team of wonderful people that work in people facing positions and behind the scenes.

Thank you - to each one!

We were blessed this week in the Centre to stop and slow down, enjoy an ice cream from the truck and a bacon and egg roll (not at the same time 🤪) and just enjoy a laugh together.

Thank you! 🫶🫶

In the last week at the Centre of Hope, we’ve …

•Provided 43 showers for people
•Prepared more than 180 cooked meals (not including toasties and self serve toast!)
•Countless loads of washing and drying, both with our own machine and the help of Orange Sky!

The line up for Foodbank and food hampers is increasing, and well as people coming through our Centre just need a safe space to rest, and a conversation.

And the thing is … none of it would have been possible without our awesome team staff, volunteers and community partners!

We ❤️ Rockingham.

With conversations kicking up about government spending and the rise of homelessness in our state, we are absolutely seeing the increase in demand on our services and presence in our community.

People are sleeping rough, struggling with the everyday cost of groceries, fuel and rent, and homeless camps are an every day reality.

Every small act of compassion matters, and every big action that addresses the pain across our community.

Hi friends!

It's the 1st Sunday of the month this weekend ... which means we're back together for church!

Mitch is preaching on Romans 12 - placing our everyday, ordinary, life before God as an offering.

Kids church is on too - thank you to our wonderful kids volunteers!
