I need to say something that a lot of people in our community are thinking but not saying out loud.
The way NDIS changes are being rolled out right now is leaving genuine participants feeling like they’re being slowly squeezed out or cut back.
People are having their plans reduced.
Supports are being questioned. Funding that actually helps someone function day to day is being trimmed back or made harder to access.
And let’s be real — if you’re actually living with a disability and relying on this system, it doesn’t feel like “reform”. It feels like instability. It feels like having to constantly prove you deserve basic support just to get through life.
Yes, everyone agrees fraud and misuse should be dealt with properly. No one is arguing against that.
But what’s actually happening on the ground is that regular, legitimate participants are the ones carrying the stress of these changes, while the system keeps talking about savings, tightening, and restructuring.
And it’s exhausting.
As someone who is also on the NDIS, I can say this directly — this isn’t just an “issue”. It affects your mental health, your independence, your ability to plan your life, and your sense of security in a system that is supposed to support you.
We should be targeting actual rorting, actual abuse, actual corruption in the system — not quietly tightening screws on people who already have enough to deal with.
NDIS is meant to support dignity, independence, and participation in life.
Right now, too many people feel like they’re fighting just to keep what they already had.
That’s not good enough.
