Our Annual Sydney Golf Day was on Thursday, December 4, at the sublime historic (126 years old!) Concord Golf Club.
Though numbers were down – due to hours of traffic chaos in the M4 Tunnel – enthusiasm was high.
TCF co-founder Greg Chappell flew in from Adelaide specially for the day. His golf swing is a thing of beauty, as was his on-drive. India’s Consul-General, H.E. Dr S. Janakiraman ( a 9 marker!) was there as well. Venues NSW Chair David Gallop, a keen golfer, played, as did former Sydney Swans premiership star Nick Davis, who is almost a scratch marker.
TCF Chairman Darshak Mehta salvaged his dismal round of golf on the day by fluking a hole in one – odds of 12500 to 1 – on the 16th and has been ecstatic ever since.
Foursomes tried valiantly to win the BMW on offer for a hole-in-one on the 6th, but at the end of the day, the handsome Beemer returned to Canterbury BMW.
Dinner following the golf was a lively affair. Dr Terri Said, CEO of WAYS – one of our partner charities, explained movingly the dimensions of Australia’s youth homelessness issue. She gave inspiring examples of young people whose lives WAYS has helped transform, with a little financial help from us.
TCF Director Daniel Odman was MC and may have to consider giving up his day job, so good was his interview with Greg Chappell and engagement with the audience.
Our thanks to sponsors Equity Trustees, Venues NSW, Canterbury BMW, Neo Health, State Bank of India, iSoft, and Callaway Golf for their generosity in supporting the cause of ending youth homelessness.
