Where you live can have a significant impact on your health.

These disparities highlight the urgent need for equitable access to healthcare, early intervention and ongoing support for rural and remote communities.

What if regional communities had the same opportunities to shape the future of health research?

Too often, research and innovation are concentrated in major cities, while regional communities face unique challenges that require local knowledge and locally driven solutions.

At the Rural Health Research Foundation, we believe where you live shouldn’t determine whether your ideas are heard, supported or researched.

Because meaningful change can start with something as simple as asking:

“What does our community need?”

And then creating the opportunity to answer it.

We’re so grateful to play a part in this incredible project, supporting ShoreTrack and young people across the Nambucca Valley to co-design and build an outdoor yarning and wellbeing space.

The space will create a culturally safe place for mentoring, check-ins, shared meals and group activities. Which will give young people a lasting place to connect, belong and feel supported.

We’re so grateful to the Ubuntu Foundation funding that has helped make this meaningful project possible.

It’s incredible to see the young people’s ideas and hard work coming to life!!

Meet Cass Wilson, our Executive Officer!!

Cass is a connector, collaborator, and passionate advocate for regional communities. With a career spanning government, corporate, and the not-for-profit sector, she brings a wealth of experience in building partnerships, leading meaningful change, and turning big ideas into lasting impact.

From leading major regional initiatives across the North Coast to championing women in leadership and mentoring emerging leaders, Cass is driven by one simple goal: creating stronger, healthier communities.

At the Rural Health Research Foundation, Cass leads with purpose, bringing people together to transform research into real-world outcomes that make a difference where it’s needed most.

We’re proud to have Cass leading our team and helping shape a healthier future for rural and regional Australia. 💙

Last week Cass made the trip north from Coffs Harbour to Rockhampton for Motherland’s Queensland event, where she met up with Carolyn and joined more than 200 rural mothers from across the state for an afternoon centred on connection, community and shared experience.

As Diamond Sponsors, RHRF and the Ubuntu Foundation were proud to support an event that is making a real difference in the lives of rural women. It was also wonderful to spend time with RHRF Ambassador, the Hon. Bronnie Taylor, whose ongoing passion for rural communities continues to inspire us.

One of the most powerful parts of the day was hearing the stories shared by the women on the panel. Their vulnerability, honesty and courage created an atmosphere where everyone felt seen, understood and connected. There were tears, laughter and many moments of recognition as women realised they were not alone in their experiences. To hear more from these remarkable women, tune into their individual episodes on the Motherland Australia Podcast.

What makes Motherland so special is that it was born from founder Stephanie Trethewey’s own lived experience of rural motherhood. Recognising the isolation that many women in rural and remote communities face, Steph transformed a personal challenge into a movement that now supports thousands of women across Australia. Through its podcast, online community, events and resources, Motherland provides connection, encouragement and practical support for rural mothers navigating the unique challenges of life beyond the city.

The afternoon was a powerful reminder of the importance of connection and the strength that comes from shared experiences. We are incredibly proud to partner with organisations like Motherland that are helping build stronger, healthier and more connected rural communities across Australia.
