On Tuesday the Jetty Dune Care volunteers planted a Koda tree, Ehretia acuminata, which was grown by a volunteer from seed 10 years ago. It has been positioned by the recently installed park bench that was donated and dedicated to Wendy Hasen by her family.

Wendy's remains were found in the dunes by one of our volunteers last year and she was identified some time later.

The tree is semi deciduous so will provide a shady sit spot for all of us in summer and let the sun through in winter.

Thank you to Coffs Harbour City Council for permission and providing the tree guard.

Last Tuesday Jetty Dunecare volunteers and contractors celebrated the end of the year, another wonderful year caring for this beautiful area on Gumbaynggirr country.

30 of us came together with the volunteers including our contractors from Pedro Lyra Bush Regeneration, Brent Heely Bush Regenerator, Ecolinx Environmental Services, Mountains to Sea Natural Area Management & Peta Fairbairn Bush Regenerator.

Joining us were Larry & Barry (recently awarded life membership for Coffs Harbour Regional Landcare), and Coffs Harbour City Council representative Sally Spunner.

We'll have a break and back on 13th January. Come and join us.

On 9th December Gumbaynggirr Rangers assisted Jetty Dunecare Group with planting and w**ding on the north bank of the Beach House Area adjoining Jordan Esplanade.
Jetty Dunecare Group are 3/4 of the way through a 2 year project to rehabilitate the previously degraded site.
This small but difficult project has received funding from the City of Coffs Harbour's Environmental Levy. Jetty Dunecare group have supplied all the ground cover plants as an
in-kind contribution to the project (propagated and raised by Desnee) and volunteer and contractors are working on planting, mulching and w**d control.

Jetty Dunecare Group is pleased to say we are back looking after the Jetty foreshore north of the Jetty.
With Environmental Levy Funds received for professional bush regenerators and our team of volunteers we can restore this area and work on making it w**d free.

It's busy in the dunes with our team of volunteers working on Saturday & Tuesday mornings.
This massive tap root dug up from Siratro today! Must be a record!
Siratro, Macroptilium atropurpureum, is a robust climbing vine.
Our volunteers scout the dunes and identify invasive w**ds, tackling them together to keep our fabulous dunes clean and w**d free.
Come join us.....

While working on the southern end of the Jetty Foreshore this little water dragon (one of the many and varied locals), was spotted with ticks on its neck and back causing it to be sluggish. WIRES was called and came and took it to a vet who could remove them, then it was returned to its natural habitat.

Here is Di, one of our regular volunteers with an example of the turkey rhubarb tubers she has dug up for disposal. We have been working to remove this w**d from the dunes for a few years now but because of its capacity to spread from the prolific seed it produces it's been a challenge. Once you get the hang of locating and unearthing these things it can actually be very satisfying.
