The effects of trauma stay with us long after the event has passed. Especially in the body. If you're a q***r person, over 18, who has experienced, or is questioning if you've experienced, trauma, WithRespect is running a Trauma In the Body workshop.

It will cover the different types of trauma responses, and what we can do to soothe them when they arise. If you're not sure if the event is for you, still register, and a practitioner will contact you to discuss.

Use the link below to register. Attendance is capped at 12.

Are you LGBTIQA+ and over 18? Now's your chance to be heard! Private Lives 4 is Australia's largest national survey about the health and wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ adults yet. This survey will provide important information to health professionals, community organisations, service providers and governments to better understand the lives of LGBTIQA+ Australians.

CW: The survey contains questions about experiences of prejudice, which may be distressing to some.

Endometriosis can affect people of any gender, but it's rarely discussed when it comes to trans and GNC people. Menstruation Matters has prepared some resources for trans and gender diverse people struggling with endo, or questioning if they have it.

In addition to the pain, many trans and gender diverse people deal with the added difficulty of it being dysphoric. Menstruation Matters has prepared some fantastic fact sheets, so make sure to check them out in the link below!

Congratulations to Meriki Onus (they/them) and Djaran Murray-Jackson (he/him) for being elected as the new Co-Chairs of the First Peoples’ Assembly/Gellung Warl. Gellung Warl (tip of the spear or pointed spear in Gunaikurnai language). It is a new body formed as part of Australia’s First Treaty designed to make decisions about First Nations Peoples, provide oversight to government and ensure truth-telling in the healing process. As Rueben Berg, Co-Chair of the First Peoples’ Assembly, stated in his first address to Victoria’s Parliament, “The tip is Gellung Warl, the wood of the spear is our community, the binding is Treaty, the line of sight and the throw are our self-determination".

Treaty has been a long time coming, and we stand behind every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person and community who has fought hard for this milestone. First Nations autonomy, agency and voice are key to the ongoing truth-telling process, ensuring that decisions about First Nations people are made by First Nations people.

Recognising First Nations peoples as the custodians of the lands and responding to the harms of colonisation are top listed priority in our Social Justice Action Plan and Framework. DSS is proud to stand in solidarity with Gellung Warl, and as an ally supports Treaty wholeheartedly. Treaty is an important step in rectifying the injustice of colonisation, and a necessary step for healing. We support the First Peoples’ Assembly and Gellung Warl in their work, and wish Meriki and Djaran all the best.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal Land.

Today is National Sorry Day, acknowledging the Stolen Generations - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island children forcibly removed from their families between the mid-1800s and the 1980s.

The theme for this year’s National Sorry Day is From Sorry to Action. The call is clear, we must move from words to action. This needs to happen now, not in another decade. Although it is important to acknowledge past harm, addressing it through action is critical. Sorry signals compassion, action delivers justice. We encourage you to mark National Sorry Day on 26 May, and to stand with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to ensure this day is part of an ongoing commitment to truth-telling and healing.

National Sorry Day is an opportunity for all Australians to learn more about this history and its ongoing, intergenerational impacts. But education must be supported by action.

Head to The Healing Foundation website to access resources including the Stolen Generations Resource Kit for Teachers and Students, Institutions Map and more.

What a fantastic week at the Family and Relationship Services Australia (FRSA) Conference in Brisbane last week!

Our team and partners did an incredible job showcasing the breadth and impact of Drummond Street Services' work while keeping audiences engaged and inspired along the way.

From conversations about intersectionality, to musical workshops helping children explore body positivity, and discussions on co-designing research and evaluation with young people, the team highlighted the power of inclusive, community-led practice, with a little ukulele playing in the mix too. Well done, all!
