Hopefully this will be the last post for our Denman Ave Trees page. As you would be aware, the appearance of the landscaping along the bike track has been very unattractive with overgrown weeds, long grass, fallen branches and rubbish. This has come about since the TfNSW maintenance contract ended and is now the responsibility of the SSC. I recently put in a "Snap, Send & Solve" notification and I am please to include the Councils response below. Hope you and your families have a great Christmas. Stay safe.

The SCATL project team have asked to have a meeting with Judy and myself to review progress down Denman Ave so far and to see if there are any resident concerns that need to be addressed as the work nears completion.

The meeting will be next week so if you have any concerns about any work completed, currently being done or yet to be done, can you please put any questions in the comments section below and we will ensure they are put to the project team.

I will let you know any outcomes later.

Hi all, it's been a while since I've had info to pass on as the work down Denman Ave proceeds at pace. To date, the project is meeting all of the agreements that were made when Judy and I met with the project team. While we would all rather it be somewhere else, I have to admit that the south side of Denman is much more attractive than random trailers, boats, cars and caravans.

I have recently forwarded questions a resident asked me to get answered to the project people and below is the response from Sydney Civil on behalf of TfNSW.

1. How long the parking restriction will last? (Where work is currently being carried out)
This would be in place for approximately 6 weeks, weather permitting

2. Will the broken centreline of the road (which was moved today) be moved back to original position since its position now leaves little room for cars traveling east when rubbish and green waste bins are out for emptying?
Yes.

3. When complete, will there be parking available on the southern side of Denman Ave with the new gutter installed?
No parking on southern side of Denman Avenue with new kerb and gutter works.

First up, I apologise for this long post!
Hi all, it's been a while since our last post - mostly waiting to see if what was promised to Judy and I in our on-site meeting would actually happen. So far it appears that they are following their plans as amended by the questions and requests from neighbours. However a couple of issues have arisen recently which you might like to act on.

Karen, one of our residents happened on some information which she thought others may like to act on.

Karen found out this week that travelling west, the right turn from the Kingsway into Banksia St (which leads onto Denman Ave) is going to be removed as part of the SCATL project. Instead, l understand that lights will be placed at Willarong Rd and North Caringbah will be accessed by Dianella St or Booyong Ave. Others may have missed this as well. Karen will be raising a complaint with Council and the project. If others are unhappy about this and could do the same, that would be helpful. I am currently in Japan but will be contacting the TfNSW project manager when I return.

The second thing is, the last SCATL notification a week or so ago and again yesterday from Sydney Civil talked about removing trees on Denman Ave commencing late October! The trees that were removed last month were the ones indicated on the landscaping plans given to us. I, and I'm sure other residents would like to know which extra trees are to be removed over and above those already done. I have emailed TfNSW and was told that an arborist would be making a report. I have not heard anything more.

PLEASE HELP BY E-MAILING QUESTIONS TO COUNCIL, TfNSW AND SYDNEY CIVIL AS WELL AS ANY LOCAL COUNCILORS REGARDING ACCESS TO BANKSIA ST AS WELL AS THE TREE REMOVAL ISSUE.

Work is proceeding quickly and time may be limited.

Tuesday 5th Sept: Just had a phone call from the SCATL project manager. He wanted to explain that the work being done up Denman Ave was to prepare for foundations for the extended boardwalks which will enable trees opposite 127-129 and others further up to be saved. He assured me that once that has been done all work will concentrate on the Gannons Rd end until complete. I once again emphasised the need for increase screening for the electrical substation following removal of trees.

Urgent update for residents from Gannons Rd to Wallumatta Rd.
In the last community notification, we were told that work on tree removal would begin Monday , 4-09-2023. There appears to have been an additional recent arborist visit and now trees to be removed have a blue paint dot. I walked Denman Ave today and noted a total of 37 blue dot trees, 18 of them from Gannons Rd to Wallumatta Rd. From the plans we were shown, 5 large to medium three were to be removed. Following are pics of the major trees to be removed in this area.
If you are concerned, I suggest that you email Sutherland Council and local Councilors since I believe all tree removal and landscaping has been OK'd by Council!!! All email addresses are in an earlier post.

At our onsite meeting with Transport NSW, Judy and I again emphasised that residents and all other parties preferred the rail corridor option. It was made clear to us that this was not in their plans. That being the case, if the Denman Ave verge was to be used, we put on record a number of requests and suggestions so that more trees can be saved, and proper screening of rail corridor and electrical substation is undertaken.

Yesterday we received an email regarding those issues which follows: (the italic text is TfNSW response)

While Judy and I have requested that these SCATL letterbox drops be more wide spread, I am not confident that this has happened so I include it here for your information. Also, at our on-site meeting with TfNSW we emphasised the preference for the rail corridor option but if that was ignored we put residents concerns and suggestions about tree loss and bike route down Denman Ave. These included improved landscaping, change in route to save trees and others that are in a previous post. To date we have not received a response but have been promised a reply this coming week.

Transport for NSW is delivering the Sutherland to Cronulla Active Transport Link (SCATL), it is a pedestrian and bicycle path linking Sutherland to Cronulla. Stage 2 East construction is underway between Jackson Avenue, Miranda and Gannons Road, Caringbah.

Construction update - Denman Avenue (Gannons Road to Banksia Road)
What is happening?

As we build Stage 2 East of the active transport link, some trees and vegetation need to be removed along Denman Avenue at Caringbah. Please see the map below for location detail.

When we’ll be working

We will conduct tree removal work on Denman Avenue in stages commencing Monday 4 September, weather permitting, followed by path installation works.

Our work hours are from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.

The works along Denman Avenue will be delivered in stages and is expected to take around six months to complete.

How will the work affect you?

The work will involve:

setting up traffic controls including temporary lane closures, parking removal (in sections)
temporarily modifying pedestrian access
establishing safe access at the work site
removing overhead branches, trees and tree stumps and chipping.
Our work will be noisy at times. Chipping will be completed in stages.



Ausgrid will also be working on Denman Avenue during September to install street lighting. Temporary changes to parking may be required to operate the elevated work platforms and create a safe working zone.

Traffic changes
There will be temporary traffic changes during our work to ensure the work zone is safe.

Lane closures will be in place and may affect travel times. Please keep to the speed limits and follow signs and traffic controllers’ directions.

Parking changes
We kindly request all vehicles, boats, trailers, and caravans are removed from the construction site, on Denman Avenue, between Gannons Road and Cawarra Road by 5am Wednesday 30 August 2023.

There will also be temporary removal of on-street parking on the residential side of Denman Avenue from Nullaburra Road to Gannons Road when required during construction of the project.

This will enable us to create a safe working area with temporary lane changes in place. We will be in contact with residents to advise of changes to parking and signage will be in place in advance to assist motorists with the changes. We will return on-street parking to the community as soon as we can.
