The Healthy Slimmers Fellowship is a non-profit organisation run purely by volunteers, and has eight clubs in and around the Brisbane area. There are many issues that push us towards unhealthy eating patterns and lifestyles. Our fellowship, through support, has been able to help people identify these issues and help members to work towards avoiding their weight related consequences. You must have
realistic expectations and these come about through regular exercise and adopting a healthy lifestyle. Our main aim as a slimming group is to help members achieve their personal goals, whatever they may be. Our slimming group is one that does not just focus on weight. We look at the bigger picture and concentrate on lifestyle, which incorporates a healthy and sensible eating pattern, exercise, good sleep, laughter, happiness and the enjoyment of life. As a support group we encourage our members to be healthy at any weight rather than slim at any cost. There is not much fun attached to obesity, but laughter is great medicine and we certainly believe you need a good dose fairly often. To allow the inner person to grow is a wonderful thing. Our members will say “I do things in this group that I would never do at home”. We teach people not to be afraid of achievement, not to be afraid of participation, not to be afraid of being assertive, and most importantly that they are the most important person in the world to themselves. MEMBERSHIP Membership
Membership provides the opportunity to learn and understand the process of living a healthy lifestyle. If you are interested in following your journey to achieve weight loss you can contact our nearest club and discuss your lifestyle goals confidentially, and arrange to attend a meeting (obligation free) to ensure that what we offer is suitable to your requirements. You will welcomed by one of our hostesses, who will explain how our program works and how the club operates. The hostess is available to answer your questions and address any concerns that you may have. These can be addressed either at the club or by telephone. Our members are friendly and helpful, so making friends is easy. With the support of our volunteers we can help to make your weight loss journey fun and exciting as you work towards living a healthier lifestyle. The member's objectives are to sensibly lose excess weight; to maintain weight at a healthy level; to encourage other members to achieve these objectives. The club's officers are required to keep authentic and accurate records. Members are encouraged to engage in group social activities and to attend our own and sister clubs functions and annual weekend retreat. Membership is open to anyone who has a reason for controlling his or her weight. Within four weeks of joining, you are required to obtain a doctor's letter stating your desired goal weight and any relevant medical condition. This letter must be updated every two years or at the discretion of the member's doctor. A Medical Indemnity form must be completed by a member when joining. This is a confidential document and is purely used in an emergency involving said member and the need to call an ambulance. When pregnant, members must obtain a new letter that is to be varied as necessary, by the doctor, during and following the pregnancy. Upon joining, new members receive a “Starter Kit”, which consists of your healthy eating program, personal weight card, a letter requesting your doctor’s approval, medical indemnity form, food diary and behaviour modification form, food diary and menu planning and other useful information. Joining our group can be a most rewarding experience. You receive weekly support throughout your weight loss journey, one to one sessions with a Dietary Support Person together with support and encouragement from all members of the group. You will not be alone in this journey. Once you achieve your ideal weight you then become a keeper as you prepare to move on to a graduate and join other members who have achieved this goal and in turn help other new members.
